I am australian due to fly into mali today but have postponed until april 3rd? I work in mali and always found it a relative safe place to work with very friendly people. News updates are scarce and this has made many westerners scared to travel for the helping and training of mali workers. IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL IN SOUTHERN PARTS FOR ???

Just flew out of Mali yesterday afternoon on a charter flight. I got stranded due to the Junta closing the airspace. Bamako is pretty much back to normal with the except of military presence in certain parts of the center. I was around Yanfolila in the SW, about 250km from Bamako and you could not tell that there it was a coup d'etat in progress. However, the situation is uncertain and could turn volatile in the next days or weeks as the Junta needs money to run the Country and it is not clear that they will get it. There are reports that some ministries were looted last night, which suggests that in spite of the Junta's assurances to the public they are not in control. The local TV station continues to broadcast the regime's propaganda, but the more they talk the more questions they raise.
