Why is it so difficult for a French president to apologise for the 132 years of colonisation in Algeria, and the brutal repression of the struggle for independence.
Now, the cat is out of the bag and everybody, on both sides, knows the score; so why not come clear?

I don't talk about Syria because this thread is about Holland coming to Algeria and not about Syria.

As for Morocco, I was there in Casablanca in October, and I didn't see any poverty there. It's very affluent, and I would say that the average Morocan city dweller lives better than an Algerian city dweller.
The town is clean, and very busy.
Morocco has more trade and foreign business than Algeria, and this is seen by the number of shops, supermarkets and commercial malls that don't exist in Algeria. There are a lot more imported luxury items too.
Also, Morocco has a large rich foreign population (French, British, Dutch, German, etc...) who come to invest and retire there because of low taxes. Algeria should adopt that system to attract foreign capital.

First, I am not Morocan, but British ok?

Second, I know about Algeria : I am married to an Algerian from Oran! Just this year, I have been there 6 times! I have even taken my car and travelled across Algeria, etc...

Third, although I prefer Algeria because of the people, I can clearly see that Morocco has also some assets. Algeria is a close society, where Morocco is more open to different influences. You hardly see any tourists in Algeria, but there are plenty in Morocco, for example. A Westerner needs a visa to go to Algeria, but not for Morocco, for example...

Fourth, most Morocans like Algeria, and Algerians seem to be well received in Morocco. Most Algerians like Morocans too, I have found.

All that to say that Morocco and Algeria don't look like enemies to each others. Of course, there is a closed border between them, which is a pity...

Most of the "tourists" in Algeria are expats from France coming to visit their families once a year in Summer. That I have seen on the many beaches I have been; just looking at the cars' registrations tells you that! I have often felt like the only foreigner there!

Algeria isn't a tourist destination like Morocco or Tunisia. First there is a long visa process and 85 to pay to obtain a short visa after 3 weeks wait. The customs and passport procedures are long. That would put most tourists off straightaway.

Also, Algeria isn't on the menu of ANY tourist company in Europe or USA. There is no Western tour operator working in Algeria, no cheap flight there, no package holidays, etc... Only the Sahara is attractive to a few Western adventurers.

RE. Morocco. Most of the tourists go there for sightseing, often in families. Marrackech, Casablanca, Agadir are holiday resorts for Westerners who visit the souks, buy artifacts, hand made leather goods, etc...
There may be some sex tourism, but I doubt if it's very much. There is no visible sign of prostitution in Casablanca. Also, most foreigners visit in families, with wives and children - hardly sex tourism!
Many tourists also come from cruise liners docking at Casablanca for day trips, visiting the town in organised tours, etc... Again, no visible prostitution there: most are middle aged couples!

You don't like Morocco, fair enough, but at least don't tell lies about it.
There are countries I don't like too, but I don't feel the need to write rubbish about them.
