Oh no, we can not have any hold overs as far as coaches from the Tressel era.
We need to put the era behind us and move on.
OSU needs to get fresh blood in there.
Ohio State needs to get away from Tressel ball and if OSU needs to run the score up on opponets to win. OSU needs not to apologize for it.

Too bad it's not that easy. This will not be forgotten for many years to come.

Who said anything about forgetting what happened? On the contrary, remembering not only what happened but (more importantly) why and how is the best way to keep it from happening again. One can put the past behind and move on without forgetting.

Neither Tress, the University, or current players can defend themselves, or the school as they are silenced by NCAA rules. As for the current Coaches, their contracts should be extended and Fickell's salary should be raised comenserate with his job. After this witch hun subsides, and if Tress is judged in the right light, he should be rehired. As for Sports Illustrated and ESPN? They should be sued out of business.

Hire a new AD and clean house. Keeping any portion of this coaching staff will always make people wonder. How much did this staff know, see and keep quiet? Why was everyone blind? They wanted the wins and perks too. As Tressel "protected" his players, this staff, from Fickell to the equip. manager, protected Tressel, players and their own @$$. No one will believe the program is clean if any of these coaches are retained past Nov.27, 2011.
I say dump Smith, Archie and Fickell and his staff.
Start clean.....prove to that OSU can right the ship with good, quality people.....who won't CHEAT.

OH PLEEEZZZE!!!!!!!!!!
Keep this current coaching staff for 4 or 5 more years? These "Sgt Schultz" coaches were kept around because they were blind...they also protected players.
The football program needs a clean house....no lingering thoughts if any of hold-over coach is dirty and a cheater. New AD is a must. Smith and Archie must resign or be fired. The cloud of a dirty program has to be removed. A new AD needs to bring in people he can trust. Keeping any of these coaches will not remove doubt in people's mind. Where was the integerity of these coaches? Why did THEY ignore players covered in Tats? Did they ever walk thru the parking lots? I feel they should bear some of the blame. Evidently, if they were not strong enough to go to Tres, Smith or Archie and voice concerns about the rouge players.....what in God's name makes you think that they won't ignore any future rule violations again?
To keep this crew would be a great mistake. OSU needs to clean up it's image. Keeping anyone around who should have exercised some sort authority or voiced concerns in this mess is not worthy of being on a OSU coaching staff. From Headcoach Fickell down to a GA.

I never said one couldn't. The nation won't be forgetting what kind of program this is for a very long time, others won't be as forgiving or willing to forget. Especially after all the trash that buckeye fans talk. Many people think OSU will get exactly what they deserve. I happen to be one of those people.

Then that's what you should have said in the first place. And I agree that anyone involved should get what they deserve, but there are those within the program who may not, which is unfortunate. In addition, there will be those within the program who will be punished for the sins of others, something that happens anytime something like this comes up. Right now there are good kids in programs like USC and Michigan who are being punished for violations committed by other people, and the same thing will happen here. That's a shame. It's also a shame that you want to lump all Buckeye fans into one category of talking "trash" - unfortunately many do, but many more do not.

Finally, I don't want anyone else across the country to forget about what is happening here either - not because I care about what other people think of OSU, but because it should serve as a reminder to everyone that constant vigilance is needed. College football needs its largest and best programs to set the standard when it comes to following the rules, and it's sad that some at OSU are responsible for lowering that standard.

I think Tressell should step up to the plate and defend his coaches. But no, he is going to let Luke get thrown under the bus. Coach Fickell is ready for prime time, just ask anybody in the collegiate ranks. They will agree. Unless Tressel speaks up, Luke will be gone after one year.

Good luch in Portland Jon Diebler. I wish you the best. Thanks for the great years you have given Ohio State and the fans..Too bad no one else who read this article mentioned you. Some of us Buckeye fans think about more than football, though.

Why can't Tressel defends himself?

He is no longer employed by OSU so the NCAA rules no longer apply to him.
