RON SMITH The Recorder and Times Linda and Doug Jarvis pose with the Stanley Cup in the backyard of Linda's parents' home in Brockville on Wednesday morning. Doug Jarvis was an assistant coach with the playoff champion Boston Bruins, enabling him to win his sixth Stanley Cup
thats the caption under the pic that accompanied that story, so we now know it was at Linda's Parents House in brockville, and from the black color of the windows in the background in the picture I'd say it was about 1 or 2 pm in the afternoon when that pic was taken...i can tell form the light.
LMFAO. aaah but if you keep reading that story we come to this...
The Stanley Cup was hosted in the backyard of Cliff and Lillian Clow, the parents of Linda, Doug's wife, before it made its way to the city police station, fire hall and the Jarvis cottage near Westport in the afternoon.
People crowded around the trophy, taking photos, looking for names and teams engraved on it.
"It's always special, the history of it," said Jarvis, "the tradition that is there. You never get over that feeling of being able to win it."
Jarvis won it in his first four years in the NHL with the Canadiens.
Then, the NHL record holder of 964 consecutive games played, never won it again in his 13-year playing career from 1975 to 1988.
"It's a dream of every kid. I was blessed early in my pro career," he continued. "And, once you win it, you want to win it again."
There were plenty of Bruins fans, along with Canadiens fans, among the family's friends and relatives.
There were even two Toronto Maple Leafs fans there.
"Lean in there. This might be as close as Toronto gets to the Cup," quipped Linda Jarvis as she was taking a photo of Brockville's Bruce Wylie and Alexandria's Bill Tadgell beside the trophy.
The Leafs have been mired in the non-winning streak since 1966-67.
However, the last time the Bruins won before this past spring was in 1972.
"They're all unique and all special in their own way," said Doug Jarvis of his sixth time with the Stanley Cup.
"This was special in the sense it has been 39 years since Boston had won the Cup," noted Jarvis.
When the 2010-11 season started, the Bruins weren't viewed as a contender to be lifting the Stanley Cup in June.
"That's why you play the regular season. Over the 82 games of the regular season, your team develops," explained Jarvis.
"With our team, what I saw develop was a real resolve," he continued. "When we were down we were always able to battle back. That paid off in the playoffs."
The Bruins didn't have an easy road to the Stanley Cup.
"We went down two games to Montreal. We went down two games to Vancouver," said Jarvis. "Having gone through that in the regular season, and bouncing back, we had the resolve to come back."
The Bruins need to enjoy their short summer as NHL training camps are about a month away from starting up again.
No team has won back-to-back Stanley Cups since the 1997 and 1998 Detroit Red Wings.
The Bruins will be the target for the rest of the NHL in the upcoming season. Jarvis knows it's going to be tough to repeat.
"You gotta stay focused. We have to come back strong and ready for this year," said Jarvis. "Our team has a real determination that will hold them in there."
Kind of a nice story I always liked Doug Jarvis, he was a great player when he played here and was solid and consistant and held the iron man title for a long long time I believe if memory serves, he was always a fan favorite here.
