It's time for Olesz to go on offensive

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

In his native Czech Republic, where for years he was a teenager playing among men, Panthers winger Rostislav Olesz was never encouraged to shoot the puck.

The preseason is not the tell all for the regular season but should still be somewhat indicative that the panthers are on the right track. We do need players like Rosti to step up. Would be nice to see him with 18+ goals this season.
My NHL Center Ice is ready to go. Prediction: Panthers make the playoffs this year.

I agree that preseason is very hard to judge success or failure in the regular season. However, I'm very encouraged that they've won a few close games, as well as a shootout so far. They've got to learn how to win those kinds of games early.

The fact that Anderson posted a hard-fought shutout hints that this kid might be the real deal if Vokoun runs into any problems. I know it is way too early to predict anything, but it is encouraging to see him take a good peppering and carry it well.

The game itself means not a whole lot. BUT, I did like the fact as well that the shoot out proved to be a positive. Practice, pre-season or whatever...a shoot out gets the adreneline pumping, we'll need to win a good amount of these during the season because it's a season killer usually when you tally up how you did on them at the end of the year, and you're not on the positve side...

The last 6 years we stunk it up in the pre season. Maybe, just maybe, winning these games is a very good sign!! GO PANTHERS!!!!!

You got that right...One of the other things he did that none of the other goalies we've had lately, including Louie was "jump on the loose puck" and smother it with his glove. We have been beaten so many times in the last few years late in the game with loose pucks floating around the net. These are situations where a failure to clear and a goalie leaving a rebound or not jumping out on that loose puck let the other team score from just a few feet out or just around the side of the pipes. Everybody that reads my posts knows I'm a huge advocate of "protecting the crease". Maybe if the goalie does it more, the D-men will do it more too...both during play and after the whistle. That would be a huge positive step for the Panthers.

I remember one preseason Panthers didn't lose a game but when the season started they couldn't win a game. Preseason is for the coaches to evaluate the players. Winning and losing in preseason means nothing.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Scorpio

The thought of the sales is almost too good to resist today, and you'll jump at the chance to see what's on offer. Even better if you can snap up some bargains at the same time. It's certainly a good day for investing your money carefully, but make sure you aren't more seduced by the reduction in the cost of something than in the item itself. Are you certain that you want to buy it?
