I heard the SIC rink management told the Blast that they needed all their money up front this year or they might not open. What a way to run a rink.

Will the rink improve this year or is it just the same old stuff?

The rink owners will be getting $600,000 from ArtsQuest. Do ya think they will spend it on the SIC? Or will they continue to let it run down?

WOW, a lot of stuff here. Will the SIC remain open?

It sounds like the owners really don't care about the operation. I skated there this weekend with my son. The place was packed with Hockey and public skating and an ice show following public. I can't see this place losing money, if ran correctly this place could be a cash cow.

Yeah, you would think that this would be true. The reality is that the rink is so poorly managed that they were asking to pay fully up front before the season starts.

There are huge problems at the rink that are covered up. It is running on cruise control until the owners can dump the rink.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE LV RINKS

With Muni out for the season will either rink pick up the pace or can they?

Is the SIC the next purchase by Parks and Arts Quest?

How will the SIC operate when the big concertS come and take UP all of the parking? Bet there will be some PO'd players.

SIC to be purchased by the Sands! Will this mean the end to skating in the valley?

Do you have a link to this story?

I start every year thinking the SIC will be paved over for casino-related reasons and the rink formerly known as the Lehigh Valley Ice Arena will be drowned in a bathtub by ownership that treats it like a red-headed stepchild, leaving us driving to Hatfield or Reading to play.

So all that stuff about the community and how the rink management was so into that is BS.

Here is the quote from the MC story:

"They're attempting to close a deal with Allentown-based Trainer Enterprises, owner of Steel Ice Center in south Bethlehem, to complete the events center. The two sides have been negotiating since last summer, and sources say they're close to striking a deal that would have Sands finish building a complex that would be leased to Trainer's investment group and managed by international concert promoting giant LiveNation.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer Michael Leven last June said talks with the Trainer group were going well."

Does this mean the rink is gone in the future. I guess this is one way to get rid of Clyde!

If true, maybe there will still be the rinks along with it, or at least one surface.

As a parent, ref, and player, the SIC has become alot of "blowin smoke up our arses" since the regime change. Why get rid of clyde? He's never there anyway, and really hasn't done anything since he's there. He can talk a good game, or so he thinks.

Hopefully his learn on the job position has helped him come summer. Maybe my son, and his BLAST team won't have to go to the body zone for ice again(multiple times), and then be questioned why we did it, when the answer was simple...$$$$!!! 300 an hr on summer ice, or 150-175 an hr for ice in Reading. Was that really hard to comprehend? WE HAD NO CHOICE !!! Hope he took notes. If not, just shut both down, and make them both in line, and then the job of selling ice is even easier. Then certain people can do more then nothing.

It's just like the Phil show at lv, except he uses inexperienced foreigners as his excuse for problems that have ruined that place, or at least the front rink, and then blame anyone but the real problem. Amazing how stupid some people are in this business.

Does anyone who uses the rink trust the management? The "blowing smoke" era was in full effect when TS said they built the rink because the community needed it. Too many people fail to see that the rink (SIC) has gone down hill and is just waiting for a buyer, in any form.

If the rink goes under or is used for some other purpose can another one be built?

Just have the Allentown team play and practice at the Steel facility. No need to build a stadium.

This town needs a real arena not the faux arena that they want to put in Allentown. Is the SIC still is danger of going under?

Amazing... yet they ask me to leave for taking photos during a game 2 years ago. I complied, and haven't been back since.

Ray, they asked you to leave for a couple reasons. First is that they have a deal with a photo company that wants to make all of the profit at the rink. And also important is that there need to be permission granted by those getting their pictures taken before you can shoot.

As far as background checks, they will never do it. No need to discuss further. Safety is not a major concern at the rink.

I run into this all the time. The question was more sarcastic than serious. There are too many lawyers and not enough photographers.

Now that all of the money has been paid for the year by the hockey teams the SIC is at risk of having a negative cash flow. These means that there could be a sign on the door at ant time saying that the rink is closed and to please call a number that does not answer.

Let me know if you have any more insight or signs that the rink is closing like soda machines being returned, snack bar equipment going out for "repair" or other signs like that.
