Letters to the Editor, November 14-17, 2009 - The Park Record

Full story: Park Record

We, and friends who cannot be at your November 10 meeting, wish to express our deep opposition to a proposed helipad at the base of The Canyons, and indeed about a helicopter-skiing operation being allowed to continue to pick up customers on any regular basis at The Canyons for flying them into the Wasatch backcountry.

Brent, thank you. Please hold true to your word. While we are a tourist town, we much prefer the out of town visitors who come and stay and spend money at places other than the ski resorts and fast food restaurants. Good riddance to you and all of your self-righteous judgmental valley-ites. Stay out of our paradise. Enjoy the inversions.

Brent Tenney makes all those important points about green house gases and liberals and then states that the film festival occurs in February which we all know is incorrect. Now everyone will concentrate on that one mistake and ignore all the important stuff. I hate that.

What are you guys so worried about? You all believe in Global Warming, so even if there IS a helipad at the Canyons, there will be no point in using it for more than a few years because there will be no snow...right?

Go and check out canyonsclub.com They are already advertising •Preferred Pricing And Member Access To Heli-skiing And various Technical Clinics as part of the ammenities they are offering.

One of the problems with the helipad is that it will still be there and most likey still be used after the ski season ends. Do we really want the possibility of take off and landings 24/7/365??
I hope a majority expresses a definite NO!

"24/7/365" Don't you think that is a bit of an exaggeration?

This is a classic case of class envy.

Dave, maybe the Old Geezer (Oops! sorry, "Mature Persoon") means that the helipad will not operate on February 29 during leap years. Otherwise, saying 7(days a week)/365 (days a year) is idiotic. But then, perhaps so is "Mature Person".(BYW, although the Canyons site DOES list heliskiing as a member benefit, it also has a disclaimer: "Note: Services may be added or deleted at the sole discretion of Canyons Club". "Mature Person" didn't both to mention that; but then again, perhaps he is too "mature" to be able to read the small print.)

I too am a PC taxpayer. By the way Dave, oops, I mean dave, the existence of the helipad once built will be there 24/7/365 and of course for that extra day for leap year too and for good measure let's throw in any extra micro seconds needed when the atomic clocks need adjusting for the wobble of the earth, pull of the planets or any other inane or insane time adjust you or any other like minded person wants to throw in. My earlier comment was to point out only the availability of the pad after ski season and in no way did I say or mean to imply that in would be in constant use 24 hours a day. You got that dave? No class envy here either. I can afford to go helicopter skiing 7 days a week and treat 20 of my best friends at the same time. Oh, and by the way PC Taxpayer, I'm well aware of the fine print listed at the bottom of the Canyons Club. It's what's called CYA. If you don't know what CYA stands for go google it. In the meantime I'll contemplate if in the future I wish to roast you with scarcsm or not.

Brent-Actually the pristine forests were cut in Park City to carve out mines, not ski runs. But the more relevant point is that you seem to think it's a waste to do even the little things to help our environment. How unfortunate. But I'll make you a deal. I'll let you idle all you want as you sit in one of the hundreds of drive thrus that dot the traffic clogged roads in west jordan if you promise to not pollute by driving up to our beautiful Park City. Please keep your negativity down in the valley.

Daily Horoscope for December 21

Taurus

If you're a typical Taurean you value both your emotional and physical security, and often tend to restrict your actions accordingly. But during the coming month you'll need to spread your wings more widely than usual, whether through mental or physical pursuits. It will do you good to be more adventurous for a change, and to embrace life in all its aspects.
