What are they going to do about the scoreboard? Um, use it?

Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney said. "We have a motto around here, and that is the best games are played in October."
Three possibilities here: 1. Kenny is actually 110 years old; 2. By "best games" he meant the Bears in the 60's; or 3. He's a Marlins fan. |

Soldier's Field would have been better. Playing on Lake Shore Drive would be better than Wrigley. Horrible sight lines for baseball, I can't imagine they will get better over night for a hockey game |

Gotta agree with the rest of the folks and I am a die hard Cubs fan.
Wrigley field is the worst possible choice for this game. The Cell would have been better. Soldier field would have been the best, Soldier field is made for a game like this. Not a well thought out decision. |

It will be a complete disaster. Too cold and the pipes and urine in the bathroom will freeze, too hot and the ice will melt. No reason not to have this at soldier. I would have bought club level seats. At wrigley, I am watching the Champs Sports Bowl at home and not even paying attention to this.

In the lead paragraph, surely the word "formerly" should be "formally," yes? Good work, Trib.

Why schedule it on New Years Day and go up against the bowl games? Why not wait until the dead sports time in February and then maybe, just maybe America would actually be compelled to watch. Leave it to the NHL to take something that could be interesting and bury it behind bigger profile events.

Mike, read up on the ratings for last year's New Years day game.

Maybe once they figure it out the Trib will formally let Chris Kuc know he was formerly a reporter. |

Let me be the first to say: BETTMAN SUCKS!
That done... Go Wings!!! |

For all of the reasons posted above, this is the worst idea ever.

First of all Detroit Sucks. Now with that out of the way the reason why they can't use Soldier field is the 1st is on a Thursday, IF the Bears make the playoffs then there is no time to melt the ice and get the field ready for a football game. The NHL and Bettman checked with the Bears and the NFL and they said NO. As far as the day that it is on going against bowl games it was the same as last year and the TV ratings were higher than the bowl games. Look there are going to be about 42,000 tickets available and they are all going to be sold, and sold quick. You all can complain all you want but there are a ton of people that are going to want to go. And the reason why they could not use the Cell is cause the White Sox said no. And I got all of my information at the Hawks convention during the seminar about the outdoor classic. The NHL spokesman was there and explained everything.

So what was all this cross-promotion junk with the White Sox about earlier this year?
Oh well, have fun finding parking. |
|
Of course, the Cubs just fixed the field... now the hockey rink will ruin it like the Grateful Dead concert.

White Sox fans should get off their high horses here. Wrigley is a better choice than that park in the ghetto on the southside. No one goes there anyway. If you think the bathrooms are bad at Wrigley, last time I was at US Cominskey the toilets in the bathrooms on the first base line were all overflowing. That place is a bigger dump than Wrigley, just newer. At least Wrigley cleans their park. Too bad it couldn't be at Soldiers Field. At least it's going to be in a nice neighborhood.
I have to agree that the game should be on a better weekend. The ratings last year were not better than football. There was 4 football games going on at the same time which spread out the football ratings. The hockey game probably did better than the Cotton Bowl. There will be 2 to 1 Red Wings fans at this game. Wrigley will be rockin when the Wings whip the Hawks, again. |

Nobody seems to be getting it. The NHL, right or wrong, and more often then not they're wrong, wasn't interested in Chicago for this game until the possibility of Wrigley Field was brought up. They didn't award Chicago this game and then say "O.K., now you guys figure out where you want to play it." It was Wrigley or N.Y. was going to get it. And somehow the bathrooms managed to function for Bears games all those years. Show of hands, how many people bitchin about Wrigley have a snowballs chance in hell of even going to this game?

what happens when we get that rare 60 degree day???
