I cannot believe that an old man, who would just as likely tear his rotator cuff opening a pickle jar, has the balls to sue an 8-year old...are they going to take a stipend from his piggy bank until he reaches the age of 16??? Honestly what is wrong with the world? I have been hit by numerous kids while snowboarding and I can honestly say my first reaction is to see if the kid is okay because I do not want that to ruin his experience and turn him off from such a wonderful sport. I hope Mr. Pfahler doesn't believe in karma, because it's a bitch. Oh, and I second the motion, please do not visit us in the Rocky Mountains ever again, stay on your gently rising hills, thanks. I don't want to be sued for causing emotional distress for going to fast in the general vicinity of you.

You are one of the biggest jerks on here. People like you hide behind the computer and call other people names. In the real world you probably couldn't even satisfy a woman. lolololol... your really sad.
Flaming happens. Get over it. For the record, many people quite capable of satisfying a woman own a personal computer.

As for the lawsuit. None of those commenting were there, however, most skiers and snowboarders should know when they sit on that lift that on the way down they will have to avoid trees, icey or grassy patches, uneven ground, and other riders of all skill levels and ages. There shouldn't be a lawsuit. It's awefully convenient that this guy's "nurse" was his wife. It's also quite amazing that an old man with a messed up rotator cuff is capable of catching a 7 year old boy by the ankle to scold him.

Basically I think the claims here are complete B.S. based on what I've read about the case. Also, those who side with the old man need a reality check.

I was wondering what kind of person would sue a kid, and did some research. This fellow lives in Allentown's posh West End, has the money to ski in Vail, and has contributed $250 toward the election of judge Brian Johnson. Punting from this information, I am guessing that he is a lawyer himself. If so, the news becomes understandable, but brings shame upon Allentown and the legal profession.
According to the search I did, he is a lawyer

If the kids was skiing since he was 3 he should have known not to act reckless like he did.

Also the kids dad has no idea what really happened since he was in front of them.

I hope the old guy gets a fortune for all his pain and suffering from that brat.

Suing a kid over something so minor? It's not so minor to the injured guy who, because of a reckless kid, has had to endure surgery, pain, missed work and money lost.

The report also stated the father was in front of them, so yes, I do know what I am talking about.

Grab a beer and chill out.

One 9 ounce jar of Vaseline and about 45 pounds of torque. That might be enough - for you to pull your head out of your a$$!!!
Have you ever skiid? This type of thing happens all the time. It's a 7, now 8 year old kid who basically bumped into this guy. What a loser you must be - so then you're OK that we open up the Pandora's Box by allowing this to be called 'irresponsible' on the parent's behalf you'll stand behind a lawsuit in which an infant drops a pacifier in a shopping mall only to have someone slip on it and fall to get a bruise on their butt - that should be a lawsuit also. You're LOST. I mean L O S T.
I hope this clown loses his job with Reader's Digest and gets crapped on by his neighbors for the remainder of his life.
Do the asenine comments you state make you feel like a tough guy?

I've been following this story since it broke and the more I hear about this man, the madder I get. He is giving Allentown such a bad name, making all of us look money-hungry as well as sue-happy. Most of us are not like that. If I would be in this man's position, I would not be suing, I would have taken care of my injury and just gone on with my life. Would I be ticked at the kid (if he was indeed skiing recklessly), yes, but would I spend my precious time suing him, no way.
I've had 2 torn ACLs in my knee and I had to take time off of work twice to have them fixed. Was it a pain because I was out of work, yes, but it was my fault that I had torn my ACL so I just had to deal with it. I never even thought about suing anybody and everybody who may have been involved in my injury.
Accidents will happen and it's sad that we live in a society where people have to pussy-foot around others not to offend them or accidentally hurt them in fear of being sued.

How pathetic is that? He sues an 8 year old and then wants the parent's not to talk? That is just crazy!

His next venture is to sue Kleenex because he found the tissues irritate his nose. I would be in favor for fines imposed on monkeys like this Pfahler who throw in frivolous lawsuits because they were never weened correctly.
How true is that! It's sad that this situation is making Allentown look so bad because it's really not that bad of a place to live. Are there sue-happy people here? Yes, but we still overall are a good place to live.
