The French wine trade is taking a beating on the domestic front and it could not have come at a worse time.

Yeah, it's a pity to consider that Sarkozy is going to sacrifice the profitable French wine industry at the altar of political correctness.

Alcoholism is to be fought like any social evil, they say.

I can't see what that has to do with a good wine!

Hey Jazz singer

You right.

The French moan about creating a lazy nation (by previous socialistic approaches) and are now trying to create more jobs for the nation. But now they want to kill one of their golden laying geese (Wine Industry)

Politicians can't live them ; don’t understand them

The continuous loss of freedom of people to do, eat, drink, smoke and say what they want is Freaking outrageous! Freedom !!!Liberty!! All free people need to STOP this loss of our basic freedoms to government. Why dont we just let the government stand us in a corner totally wrapped in bubble wrap and be spoon fed to protect us from any harm. Life IS challenges and sometimes we do get hurt but thats what freedom is! As much as Jazz singer irritates me on this post I would fight as much for his being able to say what he wants as anyone else. Let me smoke a cigarette and die of cancer in 30 years if I want....who is my government to say how healthy I must be. Let me have my wine or beer and make an ass out of my self if I want, as long as I dont hurt anyone else Who should care. Freedom to prosper and freedom to fail...all the government should do is make the playing field level for all. Stop Big Mother !

Captain A – Thx 4 the comment

You have a point. I like your Big Mother saying.

So what you saying is that governments are there to protect us from external dangers. They are not there to protect us from ourselves (ultra internal dangers)?

But were to you draw the line when it comes to drugs?

Well this is a serious comment. I can see even less people looking to move here which will even affect my little business http://www.frenchpropertyclassifieds.com/ as this type of rubbish goes on. The country has gone bonkers and I note a real and worrying lurch to an intolerant right wing about how people should live. It is now making it inevitable that many of the British who have settled here amongst others will seriously think about leaving too.

Seems like in the same way there has been and continues to be panic buying of car fuel, we could see something similar happening with wine and tobacco. Looks like there is a very bright future for Andorran and Basque smugglers. Now when was prohibition in the U.S. and how may it relate to now?

Lots of things are bad for us indeed and not just wine or tobacco. One of the reasons for European governments to ban advertisements on TV and else where for tobacco and wine is that they don't want to spend money on illnesses that are due to tobacco and alcohol consumption and sometimes smokers are found at the bottom of the list when it comes to waiting for a surgery. It's all about money.
