My name is Katina New and I am a niece of the now late Wilson Pickett. My mother, Louella Pickett New, was his sister and we as well as another uncle of mine, Maxwell Pickett, live in Atlanta, Ga.

I would like to thank you very much for acknowledging my uncle. In addition, the Pickett family would like to extend our greatest appreciation.

Wilson was my favorite R & B singer of all times..Otis Redding was next. He was great and there was nobody like him. I will deeply miss him and am sorry he has left us so early. May he rest in peace.

I was a 12 year old refugee when I arrived from Cuba to live in New Jersey back in early 1962. I hardly spoke english, but I understood soul and funk music immediately and basically grew up with it. I have to say of the many soulsingers that I loved to hear it was hard to have a favorite, to me they all had their style and flare and at this time I would like to say "thank you" Mr "Wicket" Wilson Picket for giving us your all with that raw energy with your music in such great style and soulness. YOU WERE TRULY way up there I will miss you and remember you as one of the greats. The great classic soulfull tunes you left us will be enjoyed for ever. AGAIN THANK YOU.

I agree. I made a living in nightclub bands for 15 years playing "cover tunes". Otis Redding was very good, but Wilson Pickett was even better. He knew when to relax the beat a little.

Regarding Katina New's comment...I am a cousin of the late Wilson Pickett, although I'm not of the exact lineage. If you or anyone can point me in the direction of the larger Pickett family tree that would be great. My name is Raymond Pickett and my parents are James and Ruby Pickett.

You can e-mail me at knew727@yahoo.com to further discuss the lineage. If I can't be of assistance, my mother can.

I have been an avid listener of Wilson Picketts music for over 10 years and he has helped me tremendously. Every time i hear that scream it sends shivers up my spine. That voice. That raw uninhibited power has got me through some very hard times and still continues to do so to this very day. I would have given anything to have witnessed his performances live. Wilson Pickett serves as a reminder of what true music and what true art really means. If only there is one artist today who possess a tenth of his aptitude...but alas there isn't. Wilson Pickett belongs to a small group of heroes of mine including Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles.

I thank him for every note he ever sang.

Hello Katina,
My name is Melinda Pickett- Watts.. I am the daughter of Franklin Pickett born in Alabama. I was trying to trace my family tree as my grandmother is getting ready to pass away. I have always heard about Wilson and his music. I found your entry and would like to know if you had any information on who his parents were. If you do, could you email me back.. I would like to find my family that I never knew from the south. Thank you
