On pipeline, GOP plays Buffett card to counter Dems' Koch claims
Senior Capitol Hill Democrats battling the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline are casting the project as a sop to the Koch Brothers, billionaire industrialists who pour money into conservative causes.

The Buffett card is a lot more about the never resolved Eminent Domain issue of whither coal slurry (about the same as this Bitumen, Tar Sand, synthetic crude that is about like Asphalt street paving without the rocks in raw cold form) pipe lines could force the crossing a railroad that could haul the same raw product in a semi solid form.
Eminent Domain unlike some congressman deciding he is more qualified than the Corps of Engineers as to what is a safe river crossing, is a sword that cuts both ways. Berkshire owns not only a railroad but ultra high voltage power lines.
Railroads already have the advantage of being built, capacity, able to expand easy, able to relocate as needed and go electric traction. Plus haul raw or finished product both ways without 40 some heating/pumping and need I say bad air tax break co-generation stations.
High paying, permanent, BNSF railroad union jobs ramping up now vs. the not in writing, assumption short-term pipeline traveler jobs over 6 months. The line segments will be built when existing capacity is about to be exceeded not when some politician wants to look good before an election.
Locking up the permits (don't want to let in any competitors) now with a friendly GOP congress is a very important big deal right now.
When is President Obama going to play the buy America card. I can just see him standing on his soap box somewhere along the bottom of Lake Michigan in front of the ( we spill more than you make crowd ) and telling them how Trans Canada prefers buying cheaper steel pipe from India (Keystone # 1,) China, or Turkey, they need the jobs more than Americans the GOP seems to think.
Cutting up all those now unneeded ULCC carriers, got to do something with the scrap.
Last (really off Topic) this Keystone Xport Line and the free trade zone (no pesky customs fees)Port Arthur, TX. It's in writing about sending the fuel oil and jet fuel (there's never been any claim to make This stuff into car gasoline) back into the American heartland right. Rather than compete with the Mexican and South American oil companies with small tanker shipping.
Canadians have or could crate the the capacity to refine and ship it to the upper Midwest anyhow if it was really such a good deal.
The Canadians are going to give Americans the same free ride on our exports (forgot America decided during Reagon to export jobs rather than products) Prince Rupert and Halifax, yeah right ha, ha.
