LP popularity waxing for first time in years

I agree, vinyl is an incredible medium for music. I'm slowly amassing a collection of old and new vinyl and am glad that more online stores (such as Amazon) have started to sell it.
I also feel that vinyl sounds better (or different) than digital music, but I think the biggest appeal is to have something that most of my friends don't. I've been buying a lot of new releases first on vinyl and then on iTunes so that I can take the music with me. It's great that some bands (such as Panic at the Disco) release vinyl editions that come with a CD copy as well so you don't have to purchase the album twice, but it's still worth it.
There is one point I disagree on. I don't think pirating has hurt the music industry as much as everyone claims. If anything it helps. There are TONS of bands that have released CD's that I never would have thought of listening, but occasionally I'll "pirate" a CD from some random band and love them so much that I buy their back catalog and see them on tour. It's just more convenient than shelling out $15 for something you might not like.
