The Sorceror's Hat is not the only icon without an attraction. Cinderella's Castle only has a restaurant.

Actually the Sorceror's Hat is not the icon of the park. Since it was added later, it can't really be considered essential to the park. The water tower however, is the original icon of the park, but the only one that is located outside of a park.

#16 isn't entirely correct - there's an open-air merchandise shop directly underneat the Hat.
To Nick's second point, in logos and such the Hat is now used as the icon representing the Studios. Also, the water tower is located within the "berm" of the Studios but is in a backstage area inaccessible to Guests.

Yawn. A dreadful piece of essentially meaningless trivia of interest only to Disney fanatics. Mystery? Hardly. Secrets? Not. Paid by the word? Probably.

I guess all that talk about keeping the marketing department out of the editor's room didn't apply here.

Thou doest whine too loudly. I've been there, and it's a lot of fun, learning about how all the illusions are created.

Nick,
Cinderella's castle also has a hair salon and sleeping quarters.

Bruce,
If you are so bored, go read the rest of the paper and let those of us that aren't hateful of the world around us enjoy the story.

Actually, the hat IS the icon for the park. The hat is the logo used on all the park merchandise and promotional material.

What a crank. God forbid anyone have any fun. Just because something is meaningless to you doesn't mean it's not worthy to print. There are plenty of people who enjoy going to the Disney parks with their families that would enjoy reading a piece like this. Go troll somewhere else.

I'll troll anywhere I like, thank you.

FYI, I like going to Disney parks with my family, but I don't understand what that has to do with being interested in the fact Cinderella's castle has a hair salon and sleeping quarters.

This is a fluff piece set up to market Disney properties and as such, should not be masquerading as news in the Chicago Tribune.

So, Bruce...when the Trib does similar stories on Savannah, Sydney, or any number of other places where tourists flock, is it also marketing masquerading as news?

The place is a haven for those rich enough and shallow enough to blow their money on their selfish brats.

Shop 'til you drop...into your selfish world of hell...WDW needs your cash, and your braty kids need all that candy to stuff their mouths so they don't yell and cry in your ears.

I agree with Bruce. I'd much rather go to the beach than geek out on Disney. I think most kids would feel the same way, if their parents could just let go.

Sally, if you read Bruce's last comment, he said he likes going to disney parks with his family! And puff piece I don't stuff my daughter full of candy so she doesn't yell, she has never even had candy and she has been to disney!

Disney World has something for everyone; families, singles, couples, everyone young and old! Take a look around, I see so many retired couples enjoying themselves, and many have annual passes. The parks really do have magic. Everyone needs a bit of magic in their lives. I enjoy hearing about the families who have "saved" just to make a vacation at Disney for their children. We did the same thing many years ago and today just the two of us enjoy visiting Disney often.

Not all fun at Florida Disney Parks.

Disney parks have a high crime rate that is not published or reported in local crime stats, including murder, rape and robbery. Bad PR is wiped off the police blotter from Disney dollars.

Little kids have been reported missing from Disney parks. Kidnappers lure kids from their parents, take them to a restroom, change their clothes and walk out of the park with them. Next stop for these fair skin, blond har, blue eye kids is South America for a rich drug clan families looking for kids like this.

Many law agencies are looking for the people who video kids in sex movies that were filmed at Disney resorts.

Space Mountain is also known as Flash Mountain. Many people flash themselves to the camera before the big drop on the roller coaster.

Disney employees are treated in harsh conditions. Over worked, underpaid. Many of the Disney ride operators have only a few hours of training.

The entire local political power group is paid off from Disney on many issues that keeps Disney free of paying extra in violations, additional taxes and county fees.

Disney Parks is the largest area to attract lethal germs and viruses.

Disney pumps in the smell of fudge into the air on Main Street. That stopped making fudge on site many years ago.

At Christmas time, DIsney charges an additonal $40 for people who want to stay at the park from 7pm to midnight.

Disneyland is way better than Disney World.

Donald Duck does not wear pants.

Minnie had a lesbian affair with Daisy.

Mickey has a hidden camera in Hannah Montana's dressing room.

Walt Disney hated kids, but had a sexual thing for Annette.

Eisner was consider to be the biggest SOB to many Disney employees.

If Disney World did not exist, Orlando would be just a Greyhound bus stop.

South Americans over run Disney World in the summer time. The most obnixious group of people on the face of the earth.

Disney World is the world capital of the worst body ordor you can imagine in the summer time.

Disney has gangs of thugs from Miami who rent the park out during the night. Bus loads of them come in during May and June.

Those lawn characters you see on the grounds form the monorail, are faked. Those are not real leaves, but plastic leaves.

Sneezy has Swine Flu.

Snow White is not a virgin.

Michael Jackson once lived in the Disney Castle.

Walt Disney had an office above the firehouse on Main St.

Florida is the worst state in this country. Stay away from that state. Do not go there, do not buy property there.

"Give a Day" "Get a Day" Whooo...Weeee...

Hold onto your horses now they have found a way to get people to work for nothing...Imagine that!

I guess they think they have a public service or are a charity because they are offering to compensate volunteers with a daily pass in exchange for "free" work. Now thats some hell of a deal right there. I wish I could think of a scheme like that.

Disney - you're a genius in the eyes of a slave.

Thanks for allowing Americans the opportunity to appreciate the poverty of illegal immigrants.
