I think people can understand and sympathize with your frustration, but 4 years is a long time to stay at a place you are so unhappy at. During this time frame what actions did YOU take to make it better??

cann't speak for mo... but when i was young and just starting out, the first thing is did was stash away enough money tio support myself for three months. as i married and the family grew, we always made sure we had the emergency funds to support whatever growth the family experienced... such as children. many folks have their priorities mixed up. they have a family and then realize they can't afford them because they don't have a job that pays enough. then they get laid off and they have no savings because they were spending al ltheir money on supporting the family they couldn't afford to create in the first place.

if your priorities are in order, you won't have to "struggle" as much when times are tough. but its takes making the right choices early in life. been there. done it - lost a job due to downsizing many times. if it happened today, well, i have the means to support myself until a can get another job.

no you didn't hit a nerve, i just know otherwise based on my personal experience. didn't realize my "tone" suggested as much. anyway, ask your friend about why clear channel gets away with it. i know there are other companies that either give notice or give a severance that at least equals the pay that would have been earned to cover the notice period. companies choose not to give notice for obvious reasons... the risk to the company by the actions of disgruntled employees
Sorry, Change Agent. I haven't been able to get a hold of my HR friend. He isn't answering his phone. I'll keep trying.

Bailey,

In NO WAY am I sticking up for Dolly or the rat bastards that work for/with her. I worked there for a little bit and can tell first hand how shoddy the whole operation works. "If ya got chew in yalls mouth, yall are good kin folk" was pretty much the mentality. THEY SCREWED EVRERY ONE OVER!

Get a grip. It's over and done and there is nothing we can do to change what happened or how it happened. Yea, I was working there when they closed the doors and I wish things had been done differently but bottom line is they weren't. So, my suggestion to all the "suddenly" treated oh so poorly employees is put a little more time into finding another job and a little less time into crying over spilt milk and you'll end up back on your feet a whole lot sooner. I'd also venture to say the former employees crying the loudest on here will be among the first in line asking for a job when the new Stampede opens up. Name me 1 job you've had in your life that you didn't at some point in time have a complaint about being unfairly treated. Then my question to you will be why aren't you still there? Yes were out of work right now but I venture to say it's not the first time for any of us so get the hell over it, after the hours we put in during the 2008 Christmas season I for one am enjoying the time at home with my family.

What the article does not tell you is that Publix bought the land and will stick up another grocery store. Like we need another one? WTFE!
Where was Dolly's compassion with everyone losing their jobs. 60 days goes fast. Greed!

get use to it. Corps are doing this to people everyday. i had friends that where employeed by companies for years, they where laid off with no severance pay, nice huh. We need unions again, but they need to also reform themselves.

i got hired as a upper level cleaning person. i had to buy my own broom, bucket, and mop. after i aaccidently broke a few windows, someone stole my sanitation gear . when i asked my boss about it he said he would ask the lord to help find it. in the meantime he hired someone else that had their own buffer and told me to wait at home until the prayers were answered. what about thAT?

Orlando Premium Factory Outlet bought the property to expand... they are right next door to the stampede property. if a publix goes in too - its because they are one of many stores that is leasing space.

60 days is typically more than ANY employer gives to any wage employee when there is a layoff. they are lucky to get 2 weeks

Like others, I am truly disappointed in Dolly Parton's involvement in this. While not judging her, it seems to conflict with the beliefs she expounds when being interviewed. It appears that she is not the person I thought she was. I was going to buy tickets for her Glasgow concert this summer in Scotland but I won't now.
