Putin calls for oil, gas industry overhaul, more exploration

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called Friday for a major technological overhaul in the oil and gas sector, as well as more exploration to find new strategic deposits.

"It is obvious that Russia's oil industry and gas sector have reached a crucial juncture, where their growth potential with available sources of raw materials and outdated technology has been almost exhausted," Putin told a conference on oil and gas sector development.

Hahahahaha ... what? 8-9 years in the russian gov't and putin still has not cleaned up all the corruption in his beloved russia and now he will try to find new sources of oil and gas. Hahahaha .....words nothing but pure words....lots of talk but no action. Maybe those russian corrupt oil and gas oligarchs want to keep the price of oil as high as they possibly can by keeping supplies low as possible or trying to get foreigners to invest their own money into those investments so they can nationalize it later just like they did before? What do you think?

Enough of your biased and extreme crappola. Putin in on it. Obviously he is keeping an on eye the oil industry and is moving to help Russia to do what is necessary.

Sounds like Mr. Peter Candian is Jealous that Canada doesn't have oil resources and just can't stand it that not only does Russia have oil but it is considering doing what is necessary to keep that oil flow going. And to boot Putin isn't asking the USA robber barons to help him do it.

Good for PUtin, Good for Russia.

That's what you would like to think. There are plenty of oil people around the world who will invest in Russia, and they are people Russia trusts as well. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Oil is too important a commodity to be neglected or ignored. And Russia will find a way.

And do continue the ha ha hawing. It certainly makes you look and sound demented.

Thanks to NAFTA the "robber barons" already looted all their national resources. Canada certainly can not gain control of its border.
Call it "the colonies".

Just curious, are you suggesting Russian oil and gas oligarchs more corrupt and with closer government ties than North American ones?
Really?

What a joke.:)

LOL!

And remember our democratic congress in this government of the people, by the people and for the people, bribed by the lobbyists of big oil has decided that they will not be regulating the oil industry, no matter how many ordinary Americans are feeling the pinch at the pump and having to do without other things in order to have enought money just to go to work.

With a president and Vice-President being oil men and making money hand over fist in the last 8 years and with Iraq under their control, this country is feeling the pinch of the oil robber barons of the west. It is truly laughable that people think they have control over their lives even in this democratic country. Not where the rich and oil rich companies who always get what they want.

The USA still is #1 when it comes to "being in the pocket of the oil companies". That Peter is such a comedian suggesting Putin and Medvedyev could even come close to Bush and Cheney. ;)

Very true.

Two things influence the USA foreign policy: oil and Israel.

Canada no oil resources?
There seems to be no end to you embarrassing yourself does there?
There are hundreds of billions of barrels of oil in Canada in the massive tar sands. The governments are collecting lots of taxes from these revenues from these projects.
Better do a little more reading Canada is the largest oil exporter to the USA.

When one hears the term "oil oligarchy" what image first comes to mind? Bush and Cheney out on the golf course with their oil executive pals and maybe a Saudi prince or two?

Certainly it is not Putin or Medvedyev one thinks about in this regard.

Why not? Medvedjev was the head of Gazprom. And Putin is going to be one soon (if not already). And Gazprom is partially state owned.

In the USA oil barons tell the government what to do.
In Russia government tells the oil barons what to do.

So your point is Washington is "owned by the oil companies" but Moskva is not? You are sounding quite pro-Putin there. ;)
A government "bought and paid for" like Washington and Ottawa is no plus.:(

And do you believe George Bush and Dick Cheney will not renew their ties with big oil after leaving power? Government and the oil barons are quite linked in BOTH nations.
Could it be otherwise?

Yes you managed to thrust yourself onto the Russia forum again. The only thing you got is a whole lot of nothing./ Because Bush and Cheney are heavily into the the oil industry, and just because they have proxies to run them for them while they are in government doesn't mean they arent' controlling the oil industry. Bush and Cheney are out of office in six months. How about checking what they were worth 7 and a half years ago and what they are worth now. They haven't bee pushing the laws to benefit the oil companies for nothing. They are benefitting greatly on a personal level.

Your statment is like a dog chasing its tail. It proves nothing except for what Uther Pendragon already said. You are a simpleton in your mad attempt to try to discredit what a person said and ending up supporting what he said, while claiming that your are not.
