WLIR was the greatest radio station ever.
Remember Scream of the week? became Shreik of the week. where everyone voted for the best song that week. Malibu,
The Loop ruled.

Happy Days.

Check out this band, awesome, soemthing about them has a touch of remiscence of the 80's but yet here and now.

WLIR was the shijt back in the day! I was simply addicted to that station and all it had to offer...A refreshing change from WBAB, WRCN,(both amazing rock stations in their own right) and (ugh!) WBLI.

I'm so loving this resurgence of everything 80's. It's fun to remember it all. Very cool of Jones Beach to have a new wave concert. I wish I could be there.

Anyone remember "Spanky's" out in Stony Brook? Catered to the whole new wave thing. I loved it there. I think it was called "Levels" for the older crowd on certain nights...

Ah, good times.

Hey Hang, did you DJ at Spanky's? I spent many a sweaty night at Shadows (which Spanky's turned into on certain night for the older crowd). Which tune always got me out on the floor? Operator by Midnight Star.

Referencing the Great and Wonderful SMITHS!!! With "Panic"

"Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again ?
The Leeds side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Grasmere
But Honey Pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's Panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music that they constantly play
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DJ
Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds side-streets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
HANG THE DJ, HANG THE DJ
Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ, Hang the DJ
HANG THE DJ"

Ask, me oh,oh,oh ask me...

Excuse me, madam
You’re standing still in a no parking zone
If you don’t get a move on that body
I’ll be forced to give you a ticket
So get with it!!!

Anything that happened as part of the Long Island "New Wave" scene happened 2 years earlier in NYC, particularly at the Mudd Club. Don't give me that cr*p about Denis McNamara being the genius who tapped into the LI market and set the trends. By the time "new wave" made it to Long Island you could buy it in Macy's already.
All McNamara really did was wreck a good radio station that was playing some adventurous progressive rock. A true thinking person's music.
Malibu Sue? Give me an effing break.

Ah the good old days of the early to late 1980's. I gradauted high school in 1983 & remember the days of MTV when it was MTV, not the crap you have on now. Sounds like this show is going to be good. I always liked Belinda Carlisle, Gina Schock, Kathy Valentine, Jane Wiedlin & the lovely Charlotte Caffey on guitar. All these names mentioned are the Go-Gos. 80's punk at its best.

The Go-Go's were a terrific band.
They had a great punk-pop sound.
I wonder if Belinda is completely shaved?

bangles, who in my opinion, looked like a bunch of Ho's. Not a decent looker amongst them.

Spanky's was the best club for new music back then. It was called Shadows on Thurs, Fri and Sat. Shadows played disco all night Spank's played the best new wave and some punk. It was a unique place that has never been duplicated.
