Too bad. It was cool seeing those seaplanes takeoff and land in the water accross from the Port of Miami.

My friends and I used to also watched them take off from out office windows in the First Union Bank Building in Downtown Miami or whatever the building is called today. Problem was we were always wagering on whether or not they would crash on landing or take-off. Those planes looked like they were held together with shoe laces, Silly Putty and Elmer's Glue!

I guess George Fredlund never heard of Paradise Island Airlines and the DHC-7 aircraft they flew direct to the airport special built on Paradise Island. Which unfortunately fell the victim to corrupt and greedy management.

The latest incarnation was nothing like the old Chalks. I tried to fly with them in July but they couldn't get me where I was going and wouldn't give my money back. Good riddance.

I used Chalks a lot back in the day.

I miss all my friends over there, Hank, Billy Nowdla, Ansil,P3 Hyram....

The Compleat Angler was the best!

Unfortunately, a lot of the tropical treasures are missing now...
...including the last souvenier I brought back from the island....

Bimini is with her sister Marina now....she died.

We have a friend who used to fly for them years ago. Captain Jack Murphy. If you watch the Miami Vice opening where the Chalks plane takes off out of the cut. Captain Jack was flying that day. He also used to fly for Belcher Oil owner in his Mallard. I miss seeing the Mallards fly over my house in Dania Beach. I could always tell when they were coming in by the noise of the engines. Now they are all grounded. Another plane thats history.

I launched several memorable fishing trips to Bimini from Chalk's little terminal in Biscayne Bay, and sometimes just flew over there for the day for the Junkanoo. I also used their old day-return service out to the Dry Tortugas via Key West on snorkeling trips. It was great fun, roaring off the water and splashing down onto it, and the sense of aviation history was always palpable. What a shame; they were such a great part of Miami lore.

Plenty of dying yet to come, folks. Rent a suite in the path of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and bet on which smuggler running a 1940's plane will crash on takeoff. Customs consists of 'you got anything on that plane I should know about?'
"Just shoes and blankets, boss. Here's that shoebox of cash you ordered..."

I'm disappointed to see it go as well. Kinda another piece of something unique to old Florida just going away.

No kidding, right now I am sitting at the end of the runways at Ft Laud Exec. I used to work at Horner Equipment but now moved a couple blocks to the south of the runways.

Eventually, there will only be 3 or 4 immense corporate interests that operate literally everything in this country.
The companies that founded everything here are now too
small and insignificant to be permitted to continue so they are buried in red tape and expensive fees which hastens
their inevitable demise.
