I discovered Townes van Zandt by accident, in a loud car. Ben had put in a CD he made that randomly included Poncho and Lefty. When it came on I heard him sigh, and i tuned out the chatter of my friends and listened. I asked who it was and heard the name of a lost soulmate.

Townes has made me realize things about myself that I didn't know were there.

On 12/22 I found out I was pregnant with my first child.
On 12/24 I had a heartbreaking miscarriage that was the most important experience of my life.
and on 12/27 I sat down at my desk in the empty english department building in Morrill Hall at OK State University for 6 hours and wrote a book.
it was the first time i had ever written anything creative at all.
