Years ago, the city spent thousands of dollars sprucing up the West End by putting in beautiful brick work, concrete planters and benches. No one took care of them. The shop keepers are part of the problem. Everyone wants the city to maintain everything. Some of the responsibility should fall on the store owners and renters. Plant some flowers in flower pots, hose off your sidewalk every morning, paint your store front from time to time and stop complaining.

Why is it the cities (taxpayers) job to clean up the mess left behind by some capitalist fat cat who develops land, destroys nature, then abandon it once they see there is no more profit?(car dealers being some of the shadiest businesses around).
Bristol is a crappy, low class city. Clean it up and maybe private developers will flock to it.

How do you classify Wethersfield? Isn't that the town where lots of people trod in everyone else's S*** when the sewers overflow in Old Wethersfield. Oh, I forgot, THEIRS doesn't stink, does it????

The Boys and Girls club should buy the property and build a state of the art facility to replace the aging one on Laurel street.
In doing this they would be next to the family center, they could use some of the land for a parking lot and maybe a ball field or something like that.
Since noone is interested in the Mall we should save the town millions by building the new school on the site. It is large enough for our needs, is located downtown surrounded by residential neighborhoods which would lessen the cost of busing since most of the kids could walk to school on sidewalks already in place. If we think that this property will sell for 7.3 million we are all living in a dreamworld.

Why would Bristol want to buy another piece of property? Didn't they learn with the mall? Is Art Ward and the city leaders really this stupid??? I for one, as a Bristol resident, am at a loss. If I were to vacate my property and leave it go to waste, I am sure the town would have lawyers at my door to get it cleaned up. We should either do that imediatly with the dealership or else let him sell it outright to someone else, but NOT the town of Bristol.

I agree with Jean the proposed location for the new school in the sandpits means more busing and with the rising cost of fuel it would be uneconomical. We have the land use it. As for the old Chic Miller lot expanding the Family Center would be great. As for cleaning up the West End if the tenants/homeowners and shop owners want pretty neighborhoods go for it organise community clean up days, encourage teens to help.
