the good ones are leaving us.....in Barry Gordy's book about Motown, Gordy mentions that he turned down the release of the Marvin Gaye version of "Grapevine". Whitfield went back,reworked the song into more of a gospel feel, and it was a hit for Gladys Knight and the Pips.Whitfield went back a year later, and got the go ahead to release Gaye's version which, of course, was huge.
