I can't believe that this child could have drowned. My boys are 3 years old and are able to stand in the water. There is no way that they can drown. I would believe it if the child were say 2 going on 3, but when a child is 3+ it's hard to believe.

I can't imagine what the family is going through. Children can drown in as little as 2 inches of water in the bath tub.
Children ages four and under are two to three times as likely to drown than other age groups and account for 80 percent of home drownings (two to three times greater than other age groups).

I'm sure the grandmother is feeling horrible. She should have known better than to leave the child unattended for any length of time. What was so important that it couldn't wait until later?

Leo, you can drown from a spoonfull of liquid. It just takes a momentary lapse and a slight inhaling to start the process. Maybe the tyke was trying to hold his breath under water, who knows. But under no condition do you leave a child unattended for a second in that type of situation.
The Grandmother must be going through a living hell right now.

grandma...should have know better....never leave a kid unattended....charges should be brought...accident...what the heck...grandma what was so important...or does she not have common sense?...or did the parents not know....grandma was too old to take care of kids...
Charges should be brought against the parents...for not having no common sense.

No charges!
People are so quick to blame and punish.
accidents happen, specially with children. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Let's be more careful with our kids.

This is why you should not depend on your grandparents to care for your children, they already raised your parents, wasn't that enough for you?

You need to read this and figure out generations. The poor person taking care of the child would be a great-grandparent in this case.

There is no answer to this. It's tragedy and everybody connected will suffer for a long time. There should be no blamed meted out to anyone.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

The boy went to school with my daughter. My heart goes out to the mother and poor little Steven.
