What do most of these kids aspire to? Playing in the Major Leagues you say!. Of course, and what are major league bats made from? Ash, you say. Not aluminum? If they want to play in the bigs, let them use big leage bats.

As for Bill's weighty baseball bat comment, I can tell you for certain that there is no finer sound made than that of an ash bat solidly connecting with the sweet-spot of fresh game ball. However, some have concerns that wooden bats are a safety risk for our youth, but the reality is that all bats pose certain hazards; it matters very little when a bat flys loose into the air from a batter's fierce swing. Furthermore, either kind of bat can bruise your lower batting hand if you get a hit off of the shaft rather than the barrel of the bat - especially when the pitch screams in at about 100 miles per hour. If you ask me, let that kids choose their favorite bats just like we did when we wre kids and lets play ball!

I have not heard the crack of a bat in... I can't remember when, it's always a ping and you can never tell from the sound what the ball might be doing.

I think kids should definitely be able to choose which type of bat they can use.

In little league most kids play because it is fun. They should have the choice of aluminum or wood. Most kids wouldn't do as well with wooden bats when they are small/young because they are heavier, smaller sweet spot, etc..poorer results for inexperienced youth, hence less fun, less interest.

A game with projectiles is inherently dangerous. It takes X velocity to cause serious injury which both bats are capable of.

Aluminum bats are preferred because of their longevity, hence lower long-term costs for little leagues.
