I have been a musician for 30 years and I don't think I have ever heard a worst song than Wax Simulacra. It's just a mess. Maybe LSD would help.

It is a pretty bad song, but they are a really talented band. Listen to some of their earlier stuff.

I am soooo happy for them...CONGRATULATIONS!!

CaptainBeefheart, the singer (Cedric) dad is a professor. Omar's dad is the one who had the fire.

Based on some of the previous comments, I can see why they don't claim El Paso as their hometown. Sheeesh...
|
||||
|
Yup. I grew up with them...I live in dallas.. i dont say im from el paso.
People ask .. "where?" and others say "isn't that the place with the drugs". It's easier to say im from dallas, but for those close to me and care to understand.. "im from chuco". Anyhow...sweet that they won. |
||||
hhmm... and if they say from el paso, you will turn around and say "these guys are not from el paso, they move to california...they ain't no hometown boys" so what's the right answer? should they say "we're from califonia but we were raised in el paso, and paul's roots are from mexico as you can see from the flag he puts on every concert with every band he's been in, and omar's roots are from puerto rico.." is that the answer your expecting? And even though their acceptance speech was lacking anything worth listening, the only thing that sticks out is the last chant "viva mexico!" at the grammys.... are they still not your hometown boys. i hate haters (there's an irony in that statement) |

i liked it when they were at the drive-in.
cedric is snotty. the rest are decent. |

I just hope they never sell themselves out. They're great as they are but if dreams of selling millions of albums start forming in their genius minds TMV as they are are over.
Let's hope they carry on putting art before money. |

Well, I'm from England and since I started listening to these guys I knew they were from El Paso. I've watched a lot of interviews and they mentioned it many times.
So what's your problem here? You should be proud of them anyway. not because they're from El Paso but because they managed to win an award with such a complex and hard to get into style of music. As you all know these days it's all cheesy rock, rnb and hip hop that makes it to the grammys. Well done TMV. |
||||
Your location on this site says your from somewhere ins sweet prairie or some crap like that....and I would be embarrased to say I am from Dallas...at least El Paso has some sort of spirit..Dallas is concrete and republicans put together. |
||||
And your point is? |

Hey, The Mars Volta is from Los Angeles, CA not El Paso, TX. To state that they are from El Paso is like spitting in the face of any hard working musicians who are proud to be from El Paso, and will wear it as a badge without cowering. Yes, two of the band members with the twenty last names are FROM El Paso but the band is from Los Angeles. Keep them where they belong as they don't belong here. Not everything you read on Wikipedia is a fact you lazy F%$KS! I've written to the editor before about this mistake but it seems the bad habit continues. Change the title to reflect the connection between the members not the band itself. Giving credit to a band that could give two f@#ks about this town is ridiculous. Seriously.

Ha.. there's probably a reason why nobody takes you serious. Omar - Morehead Jr, High, Coronado High School Paul - Morehead Jr. High, Coronado High School Cedric - Wiggs (?), El Paso High School Jim Ward (although not in band but his cousin was)-El paso High School Omar's brother is in the band, so..el paso. im guesing coronado. Not sure I have my facts right but I think the other members rooted from El Paso as well (from Omar/Cedric's side band during ATDI - Defacto band? I could be wrong here). ATDI started out with big influence from growing up in El Paso. Mars Volta has the influence of ATDI but by this time, El Paso was not where they spent their last few years - so in some sence, your right if you chase it from this direction but not on the original argument you had. Also, keep in mind that ATDI opened eyes to unsolved girl -killings in juarez with their music to those that weren't aware. And if you watch widow video you'l see El Paso influence all over that beginning and thru. You'll see asarco, the old graveyard off off the highway, a paletero, indian ladis, cheros, brujeria.... SO.. how is it that you they don't care abou el paso? You expect EVERY vidoe to have some rerence to El Paso...why? Here's the vidoe...watch it and s t f u! http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/TheMarsVolt... |
