Stephin Merritt is one of pop's crankiest figures, so it's no shock that live performance by the Magnetic Fields doesn't seem to be on his list of likes.

Joshua Klein is way too kind in his review. Mr Merritt was openly hostile to the audience at the Sunday night show, showing disgust when Claudia would interact with the audience. 'Cranky' is an undestatement. The sound was so muted as to be distracting. They did not seem to have any misgivings about selling tickets, CDs, or T-shirts. What an a-hole.
