How disappointing! I have a day off to spend with my family and our afternoon plans are spoiled by the current behavior of our City officials. I took my son to the skate park today to spend a little time doing what he enjoys and to my surprise it was closed. The sign on the locked gate read,“park closed due to user behavior”. I called the City asking if my son could ride in the future and the attendant that answered the phone, said the park was closed because someone had shot out a police car window with a bb gun. She said the park is closed to show the kids this behavior is unacceptable! Ninety-nine, point nine percent of Santa Clarita citizens follow the laws and find this behavior intolerable too, but should they be punished for one individual’s delinquency?
I don’t know if the suspect that shot the window was apprehended or not, but think about the City’s behavior in this sitituation. We don’t even know if it was a kid that committed this crime? I know that recently in our community the windows have been shot out in our post office twice, Wal Greens once, Bouquet shopping center once and homeowner’s cars in the double digits in the Valencia area. How does our City try to curtail this behavior and stop the perpetrators of this felony behavior? They post a sign closing the skate park to send a message to Santa Clarita’s families that something happened in our community that wasn’t acceptable to them, but no one even knows what it is according to the sign!
Under the City’s current logic to stop criminal behavior, they are going to close Soledad Canyon next because of someone speeding in a car! This is the most absurd thing I’ve heard of! How about catching the perpetrators of this criminal behavior for a starting point and serving them the maximum allowable sentence by our judicial system? It is hard for me to fathom this kind of reasoning from our elected officials. How will our City handle the next wave of crime sprees in our community or even worse violent behavior of criminals? I am seriously concerned that our local police and City officials are incompetent in city leadership and have no idea how to perform their jobs effectively to stop crime!
What I read next in the newspapers will not shock me a bit; if it even makes it in the paper. Our community’s citizens of Santa Clarita need to wake up for the next election and make some changes by voting in effective leadership or don’t be surprised if criminal behavior effects you next.
A very concerned Santa Clarita homeowner
