Jerry died with some $50-75million. His merchadising business up in Novato made and probably still makes millions.

Jerry also sold art, signed contracts with multi-national corporations, etc, etc.

Yes, the dead would want you to believe that they didn't make anything but in reality they have millions and they are total capitalists!

On the outside Jerry was a hippy but deep inside he was really a Republican. Isn't that IRONIC!! If you think about it, by definition you are a republican if you hate gov't buerarcracy and high taxes. That would make most people Republicans and not democrats. As they say, we all die Republicans (fighting to keep gov't out of our money!).
I am not a republican, but have good friends that are, I call them "the good reds".
The Grateful Dead band members were really not "communards". Their group did live together in the Haight, and had a commune at Olampali north of Novato for about a year until it burnt down.
Most of the band members lived in central, southern and west Marin in single family houses, and some still do.
What we called hippies were actually normal people in tune with the times, I was one of them, and still are.
I know republicans who live up north who's families own large amounts of property, they used to have orchards, so they are ag inclined.
Now they have formed "collectives" a communist ideal, and they grow pot to feed their families and buy toys for the kids.
Corporate agriculture and market trends have caused them to switch gears from growing pears to pot.
There were some good republicans, and the original idea was right on, it is that the political party has changed, and now some of the good old reds are ashamed of what their party has become now.
Take the TEA party movement for example, they support giant medical insurance corporations taxing the American people to death.

It used to be counter culture (hippie) to be against government control, self-relient, independent and free. Now a days, it is libertarian- Republican.

I can't see how any hippie of the 60s era could ever really call themselves a Democrat or a Republican

Jerry didn't give a damn about anything except music, family, parties, & drugs. Toward the end, it all got reversed. No big mystery...he'd tell you that himself. Stop making him into some diety...because " When It's Done And Over, Lo...A Man Is Just A Mannnn. "

True enough, Kid in Wasilla. He was a stoned cold junkie...his words, not mine. But, in a world where everything goes right...a simple wrong can throw you for a loop. Bottom line; it was that damn Persian that got him. That damn Persian. Still, the music lives on...and loud ! Grateful to have been there at the right point in time...and done that. Thanx, Jer.
