First of all... MTV know nothing about hip hop, they know about marketing and making money.
Kanye West is good, I like kanye, but he's not the hottest emcee...
(and lil wayne is definitely not the hottest emcee)
well, it depends what you define 'the game' as?
if you're talkin about still makin records, Nas and Raekwon got albums comin out soon, Nas has the N album and Raekwon has Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 comin out this summer... Nas and Raekwon are both top 5 emcees of all time

What the hell

The game releases his best album he has ever made killing it and MTV says Kanye who relesed his weakest album using autotune is the best! Autotune is for rappers who can't rap like Lil wayne, Kanye should just spit straight :(

I've not looked at Nas' new album yet, but its Nas its going to be Sick :D

I guess they got it right if they mean most popular "mc"(and I use the term losely as I dont consider these mtv pop stars like weezy and kanye mcs)in the game. But if they meant best there way off base.So terrible list as usual.MTV shouldnt talk about hip-hop anymore.I think they once had a debate about who was better jim jones or nas?Thats like asking how did more for America Abraham Lincoln or George.W Bush,or who did more for black people Martin Luther King.Jr or 50 Cent. And I actually think they said Jim Jones was the better of the two at the end of this debate.
MTV should just stop talking about hip-hop like there opinion matters. They should keep playin there lil wayne and plies videos and shut up.They should also start listing that crap as pop because its not hip-hop.

Kanye is better than Wayne or Game, but not the hottest in the game right now. You would have to give it to Jay, Nas, maybe even Lupe.

Have any of you been listening to hip hop for more that 3 months? What has the music industry come to where we are saying these artists are the best. Kanye apparently is done with hip hop becuase he cant take it,(honestly, he fell off, lets be honest.) Waynes cool, his flow is nice, but there are so many other artists out that dont make it on mtv. last time I checked mtv it was reality shows up the ass, so dont listen to them when it comes to music.

When Kanye raps he's etter than most. Its just too bad he only makes dance music like the rest.
I don't care how gangsta you look, they all make dance music.

I only wish he would focus on "rapping" cause he is way more intelligent then most.

They dont all make dance music, only the ones you see on MTV/BET. Of course they are going to name someone who is in their heavy rotation. Public Enemy is still making records & Chuck D is 47 & will absolutely put Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy or whoever else has a heavy presence on MTV into early retirement. Just because people like Public Enemy, Mos Def, The Roots, Nas, Ice Cube and Wu Tang Clan dont choose to be a part of the exploitation of hip-hop going commercial does not make them irrelevant or not in "the game". There is nothing wrong with making a video, but when all you do is make songs to broaden your audience to sell records, you are lterally selling the culture of hip-hop away. Of course the young rappers will call them haters, but they make music their way & wont sell-out. MTV doesnt really know jack $hit about real hip-hop. If a 12 year olf white girl listens to it, the chances are its commercial, bubble gum pop-rap.

OK, I thought you were saying all rappers today make dance music. Only the ones who are in the spotlight, but contrary to what a lot people think there is a whole other world of hip-hop outside of whats on the radio & TV. Too many people let 106 & Park brainwash them as to what is "hot".

I remember back in 98 we finally got B.E.T. and I was so happy, for a month. I cant honestly tell you the last time I have watched it. I really like Kanye weat as an MC. He is very witty and funny with his rhymes. He just wants to make all the money and doesn't care how he gets there. His style is different and is what every MC should strive for. Just his beats are so not hip hop, some are but most are not. This whole weezy sound, thug shit is only for stupid people imo.

Back in the in Canada was the SH.it. Once every two weeks the only store in my city that sold hip hop vinyl would get in a shipment of new cassettes and we would take the 1 1/2 hour bus ride to get it. When ever somebody went to the states they would get so much money from everybody to buy stuff. The only rap music we would "SEE" was the Canadian Rap City, hosted by a black guy but he was so not hip hop, more like a metal head.lol. It came on for 1 hour, once a week. 7 videos some interviwews, canadian events, Graff pics, and hot singles. Other then that we would buy Rap pages, the source and other magazines i can't remember. There was so much variety and we listened to it. Everything was underground then. You had to be 18 to buy Straight Outta Compton.lol I saw Public Enemy & Run DMC in 88 in a bar/venue thanks to my friends mom who knew the owner.

I know what is good m

I cant believe people dont see right thru it though. Of course MTV is going to name Kanye West or Lil' Wayne the best rapper because they are all over their station. Nas' new albums is his best since Stillmatic & I thought Hip Hop is Dead was a really good album, but I have to say this one is a little bit better. Nas didnt even make thier top 10 list.

Untitiled is NOT nas best album since Stillmatic.Ever heard of Gods Son by any chance?
Hip-Hop is Dead was boring and Untitled was a publicity stunt.Nas needs to get it together and start making some decent hip-hop again.

I actually think God's Son was a better album Stillmatic. Although they both and their equal of good and bad tracks on them, in God's Son, Nas take his lyricism to a personally which I found very interesting to listen to. However, the production on Stillmatic was stronger but that was mainly because it prodided with beats from a selction of different producers, DJ Premier and Large Professor inlcuding. Most of God's Son was produced by Salaam Remi, who I would decribe as a mediocre producer at most. Any I would probably give God's Son an 8 or 7 1/2 out of 10, whilst Stillmatic would be a 7 out of 10.

I like God's Son, also , but I also liked Hip Hop is Dead too & his new album. Hip is Dead was not boring, it was talking a lot about whats wrong with rap today & paying homage to the old school. I love the theme of the album. There are a few tracks I could live without. Since you dont like his new album, whats a better album in 2008? You seem to bash about everything & everybody, so offer some opinion for once instead of just constantly picking apart others.

Really I like it way more than Lupes stuff. He is a better rapper to me.The production is typical underground stuff but it's good and not all over the top. As far as Lupe goes I like him I guess but he's really boring.Like when I try to listen to his music I fall asleep boring.Elzhi's not the ultimate entertainer but he is a pretty sharp lyricist and that keeps me listening.I didn't get a Lupe Fiasco vibe at all.He sounds more like a poor mans young-nas.
