Mall deal: Don't change plans now

Full story: El Paso Times

Nice try, but as we say in Texas, "big hat, no cattle." El Paso businessman Artemio De La Vega thinks the blighted, shuttered Farah site along Interstate 10 should be a mixed-use center, not the intended big ...

We don't need De La Vega's idea either! Drawing more riff raff from Mexico is the LAST thing this city needs. There're more houses for sale in the city than there needs to be, and contractors are STILL putting up new houses, so a residential area would be ludicrous.

The Hawkins -I-10 intersection would certainly improve it's status as the most deadly one in the city by adding a few more apartments and businesses in the area........Hey sounds like a case of how to lower the population and rev up the insurance industry who penalize everyone for the way idiots in El Paso drive.

We don't want the Regency-Foster plan either! Tax breaks to cover THEIR expenses so that they can move stores from one area of El Paso to a new mall... DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM A MALL, which already has the worst traffic in the city on the weekend... especially considering that it's right on an INTERSTATE. Are minimum wage, service industry jobs all you El Pasoens want?? WAKE UP!!

Yes, because we need a couple of hundred minimum wage paying jobs located at an already over-crowded parking lot which should be a high speed interstate. That'd be GREAT for the city image. Come to El Paso, where you can live in minimum wage bliss, assuming the businesses will hire you if you're not from Mexico; because Mexico is tops around here!; while a handful of greedy business owners and politicians (DEMOCRATS ALL, BTW) stay rich.

THAT sounds like the place for me, you betcha.

_Arrr, you're a fag and in idiot. Stay in San Francisco and STFU about what El Paso needs, because you don't have a clue about what this city needs any longer, assuming you ever did.

I've already embarrassed you on here quite a few times. You had actually shown the better part of valor and refrained from speaking about things which you're completely unaware of for quite some time. It was refreshing. Now, stick your boyfriend's dick back in your mouth and leave El Paso business to the ones who actually pay the taxes here. Stay in San Fran. They like fruits and nuts there.

Okay, Just so that you're all aware of _Arr's motivations:

_Arr USED to live in El Paso. Apparently he owns some type of small business nearby that does something related to construction, because the only time he says something is good is when new buildings are going up. He claims that El Paso is full of haters, and his success made him a target, so he moved his family to San Francisco. Now, he doesn't share the tax burden of El Paso, but he's all for anything that will raise taxes and increase need for HIS business. Hence his support of WE the El Paso tax payers paying for Foster to raze Foster's Folly so that he (_Arr) can get a contract that'll put money in his pocket without him taking the hit on his ow taxes like we will. His support is purely selfish, and is not in the best interest of El Paso, despite how much he yells that it is.

Paul Foster purchased the Farrah Building at a cut rate deal as a tax shelter, knowing that it was an abandoned factory. He left it that way on purpose. When Simon properties wanted to build a mall there YEARS ago, he had it appraised at 10 times what he paid for it so that they would be forced to pay top dollar for the property. They wisely told him to eat shit. Now Foster's tax shelter is costing him MUCH more in taxes than he ever wanted to pay, so he's trying to make WE the El Paso tax payers pay to raze Foster's Folly.(The man has more money than the next five richest people in the city combined, and he's trying to make the tax payers pay to destroy something he bought, poorly tried to sell, and has intentionally left vacant for a decade) The idea of a mall across from a mall, especially at that already parking lot of an interstate intersection, is ridiculously stupid. What makes it an even worse idea for El Paso is that a multi-millionaire wants WE the El Paso tax payers to pay a portion of it, and all it will bring are minimum wage service industry jobs, of which no one has ruled out yet that most won't come from elsewhere in El Paso, meaning that we're not creating jobs, just moving them. That doesn't do this city ANY good. And it just confirms outside views that El Paso is full of no-talent, blue collar lackeys. The money won't even stay here in El Paso, as all of these stores will ship it back to a corporate headquarters elsewhere. Foster's mall is a bad deal all around for El Paso. But great for Paul Foster, and for a handful of business owners, such as _Arrr. Don't be bullied by their assertions. Think for yourselves, and contact your county commissioners and tell them how you feel either way.

True that other developers approach city hall about tax incentives to build something at the Farah site but city hall said NO, that was other city administrations of years past.
The matter here is that this is a different city administration, however you still have about three city administraters that act and think very much the same as previous city administraters with the same mentality and the same results.
NOW if common sense prevails here, this is whats up.
The Farah site has sat dormant for about twenty years now, true that developers came forward to build something there and city hall said NO, they kept saying No till the John Cook administration came to office then things started to change little by little as they approve a tax incentive here and there.
Now Paul Foster owns the property and wants to develope the land and he asked city hall for a tax incentive which city hall approved but the county dissaproved, as there has been attemps before to develope the property but it never happen mainly because of the short sighted views that people can have when they have a vendetta or grudge against some one, sometiems it's just plain ENVY.
Now El Paso finally has one more chance to make something out of that property and it's already 50% approved it's the county thats has stalled the process for the remaining 50% to get this deal done and built create jobs and put people to work and get rid of that blight.
If you dont do it NOW you never will and that building will sit there for internity empty and falling apart.
The next best deal is for maybe a tornado to finnaly hit El Paso and blow the stupid building away is about the only way you are going to get rid of that blight unless you do it right and the right time has arrived to once and for all do something about it.

BTW taxpayers are paying Foster 9 percent on their money for a retail establishment that will destroy established business who are paying their full share of taxes. Of course we are going to build a new mall at a time when thousands are losing their jobs, the Peso is falling in value, fewer people are crossing to shop and companies are going out of business. Somehow it looks like a waste of money.

Quit talking out of your ass. Paul Foster bought the Farrah Building and INTENTIONALLY left it dormant to get a tax write-off. When Simon came along to build on it, they had a MUCH better plan than Regency, and FOSTER dicked that deal up by trying to make off like a bandit. The city didn't even get the chance to get involved with that. Now Paul Foster, a man who has millions to throw away, wants the tax payers to pay to raze HIS personal property because it's not the tax shelter he bought it for after he had it appraised at ten times his buying price. Sorry, but the rich frack can raze his own damned personal property. Tax payers should not have to clean up Foster's Folly for him.

As for building a mall there, it's asanine, and if the plan goes through, all that'll happen is stores will close in one location, and open at the new one. No salaries will go up, no extra jobs will be created... and we'll prove even more that it's useless to have an interstate through El Paso because I-10 and Hawking will be backed up further and for longer periods of time.

_Arrr, you only have your wallet in mind, not what's best for El Paso. Again, STFU and let El Paso tax payers take care of El Paso, not crooked politicians and uber wealthy businessmen who want to use our money to make theirs.
