I watched the Shins perform last night (May 6th, 2009) at the Crystal Ballroom here in Portland, and I must say that they weren't as "fun" as they were when Marty and Jesse were in the band - especially Marty, cuz he would always clown around on stage and also made you feel a sense of closeness to the band. When I watched them last night, I felt very distant from the band - they all played well, but it was like watching some other emotionless band just trying to make a buck.
I'm really going to miss what the band used to be, and what they used to represent. I will miss Marty and Jesse! Good luck Shins |

Can't believe he got rid of 1/2 of the band. I don't know what is going on in Mercer's head. I think he's getting the frontman egomaniacal syndrome, where he thinks he is the most important ingredient in the band and underestimates the value of the other members. The Shins were my favorite band, and I hope it stays that way after I hear their new album, but we'll see. While the Shins were the favorite, I've never liked Modest Mouse. I just hope the Shins don't suck now. There was no reason to mess with the winning formula.
