We have become detached from our past and from our environment, and will suffer the consequences. Smith Island an example of what will occur on a macro scale within a few decades.

This is such a shame. I have been to Smith Island a few times and the locals there are always so warm and friendly. It will be a shame to see that disappear along with its history.

That is the risk of building on soft low land near water. Mother nature is always changing the face of the earth. People need to learn to adapt to the change. The earth has been warming sense the last ice age and will continue until it goes into another ice age. Don't build on sand bars next to the ocean either.

This is true, the argument or fear is change.

It's regrettable that the residents of Smith island need to suffer change so soon, but unavoidable.

Civilisations require a constant, and look for something to blame in order to displace their inability to fight "mother nature".

The greenhouse debate is an argument on how our planet radiates heat back into space, as opposed to how much it receives from the Sun. That the blanket on earth is retaining more heat or energy than it normally radiates back.

Let us realise the Sun is not a constant, nor is our planet as well as our environment and atmosphere. The only constant is change, and with or without our impact we will eventually deal with both warming and cooling.

We will survive, but we will always have to adapt.
