Sherman's 'Birthday Party' is Pinter puzzle
#1 Jun 11, 2008
I saw the show last week and was entertained more than I expected to be, given this review and comments that came from other theatergoers who saw the play first. It was an uneven production which suffered from timing lags and awkward physicality during grappling scenes, but Pinter's absurd and wry wit bubbled up through the inconsistencies and did not fail to effervesce. John Taylor and Brad Bouchard worked particularly well together - my favorite line was "He won't sit down."
