Mike Love inspired Back in the U.S.S.R. ?

There are 40 comments on the www.bostonmusicspotlight.com story from Jul 28, 2009, titled Mike Love inspired Back in the U.S.S.R. ? . In it, www.bostonmusicspotlight.com reports that:

I was in India at the Maharishi’s place and Paul McCartney came to the breakfast table with his acoustic guitar and said, “Hey, listen to this, Mike "Flew in to Miami Beach B.O.A.C. …” and all that. He sang me the verses of “Back in the USSR” and I said to him, “Paul, you ought to talk about all the girls around Russia – Moscow girls, Ukraine girls, Georgia on my mind…” and he did. He did the entire music thing, and I just gave him the idea for that – for the bridge. The next time I heard it was when it was out on the “White Album”. But I guess my being there influenced him in the Beach Boys way. [laughs] We’ve even done “Back in the USSR” on stage because it’s fun to do; it’s sort of like “Fun, Fun, Fun” only with different lyrics, you know?

There is a Russian girl that works not too far from where I work about half my age but I can't decide if she's sexy or borderline sleazy. She's pretty but doesn't smile much.I guess I'd better stick to a smith and kerns instead of the white russian could get me in trouble.Lol I like smooth women who are mellow like sweet smooth wine.

Back In The USSR is definitely Beach Boys sounding but I think Mike Love is taking too much credit.

Russian girls...hmmm Maria Shaparova or Anna Kornikova come to mind pretty quick :)

If the Russian girls depicted in the song were anything like the ones in my building, the tune should have a sound more like "the Volga Boat Man".

Ha ha ha God forbid that Russian opera stuff is boring not much music either it sounded acapello almost no back ground music.Harsh stuff red square blues.Good thing the women are better than their singing.I don't think they dance much in Russia.

Mike Love and Brian Johnston are still touring as the Beach boys.As matter of fact they are coming near me this month.I don't know how he got the right to use the name but without any of the Wilson brothers or Al Jardean it can't be the Beach boys just a tribute band now. Mike Love can't let go of what little fame he has now maybe it's an ego thing?

LOL, no not really. That was my point. Harsh, hard core humorless work horses. Horses LITERALLY.
Bleak, colorless, bereft of hope, and life. It's almost work riding the elevator with them. I'm sure eatern Europeans don't like us much either. But we're not THERE!
I've only been to Europe once Amsterdam 1998 I felt tension from European people because we have it so much better than them I felt an anti-American vibe but I shrudged it off because a few of the locals were cool.I've been told that Russia has the highest lesbian rate because the men treat women like work horses I once worked for a Russian Landscape guy he treated the women like that. All work and no play makes for some dull Russian Jacks.Lol

Hey guys how are you? To tell you the truth beautiful people exist in all over the world. No matter if they're Russians or Americans, whatever. Jack, there isn't an anti-American thing going in Europe. When Clinton invaded Serbia people were anti-Clinton or anti-Bush now and then with Iraq, etc, not against American people. There's nothing wrong with American people. Good and bad exist everywhere you go.

It was amazing to be there. The police presence was incredible. They were even standing on the top of Lenins tomb. But at one point they sort of gave up on intimidating people. Maybe the peaceful music had an affect. The people were wall to wall from St. Basils to the Armory to the Gum (Pronounced “Goom”) to the Kremlin. Tickets were $25 to $300 U.S. My friend who was one of Paul translators and was responsible for getting the bicycles for Paul and his ex. If you watch when Paul sings Yesterday at the end of the song before Paul sings Yesterday for the last time they show my friend Anatoliy singing along. I was standing right next to him. Didn’t make the cut though. When they showed it here on A&E I taped and sent it to him. He has a connection with MTV in Moscow and they showed the A&E documentary on MTV. Originally they just showed the concert on TV there. The traffic in Moscow is the worst I’ve ever seen but when Paul’s motorcade drove through the police stopped everything. It was like some president was visiting.

The people seem unfriendly there even in the grocery stores and malls they don’t stop and talk like we do here. They just handle their business and move on. But when you’re invited to their home or flat, the party is on. The women are conservative but willing;) They don’t play games like most American women do. I’ve been to Europe 17 times and they best experience I’ve had was in the 3 eastern block countries I’ve been to. God bless the USSR.

Mike and Bruce are touring as the Beach Boys, Mike kicked Al out a few years back, but Brian refuses to play with Mike at all.
Carl and Dennis Wilson are gone, they both were very talented.

Mike Love is nothing without Al Jardean and Brian Wilson He must have the rights to the name to use.I never have liked that Bruce guy he wrote I write the songs that make the young girls cry and Barry big snoze mad it famous.A real cornball song.Niether him nor Mike can write like Brian or sing high Like Carl and Dennis was a good drummer and back up singer.

I have heard some of his new stuff and it still has that signature Beach Boy sound.Without the whole band It probably won't sell real well. But Brian Wilson still has a lot of talent and yes he still does tour.I'd like to see him work with Elton John.

Hello Jon,
I'm looking forward to hearing it on August 19th, I hope some Russian girls are in my section, nothing like a smoothe "White Russian" before bed.
hi awc, Greg, Bubba, and Jack, Yeah I'm really jeolous I can't go I'll in Ca. at that time. Maybe I'll try to see him there. Let me ask you guys do you remember a song that came out in 1978 by a group called Celebration featuring Mike Love, Brian Wilson, and Al Gardine? They did a song called "Almost Summer". I had the single years ago but I couldn't remember what it was called so I found it on YouTube then trying to find it on CD was almost impossible. I was in Haight/Ashbury last week and found it in a huge record store there. Great song it reminds me of my junior year in high school.
