' "Magic" takes that change is a given '

I think you miss the point. Aside from last to die - magic, long walk home, your own worst enemy, living in the future, devil's arcade, you'll be comin down have all been interpreted as protest songs.

Another masterpiece from the maestro. The man is incomparable as a songwriter. This is another onderful album to add to the many he has already produced. So many highlights, but Girls in their summer clothes isone of the most beautiful heartbreaking songs he has ever written and is an instant classic. I hope this man goes on writing forever. He is an oasis in a desert of mediocrity in 2007.

You think this album is about leisurely pursuits? What are you listening to?

I hear a record that is about war, politics, and the sorry state of America. Through and through, that's what I hear.

Now, I've only been listening to Bruce for 30 years so I could be wrong...(but I don't think so).

I think you need to listen to this album again, and to the comments Bruce has been making when he introduces the songs. On the Today show and in the rehearsal shows he spoke about how the last 6 years in this country have led to enormous abuses in government power. As other posters above have said, this is a very political album. Don't be misled by the pop hooks--Bruce has a lot more to say!

Which is why I will not be purchasing it. Bruce is an ex-irrelevant-hippie-wanna-be. Anyone want my other Springsteen albums, I no longer listen to them and they are collecting dust.

Holy overrated, Batman!

Bruce is at the top of the "Most Overrated Rock Acts of All Time" list along with the Stones and Aerosmith. All are decent artists, I own a few albums by all 3, but they are WAY overrated.

ayeee right.
i havent had a chance to hear magic, but I own every other springsteen album.
And I'm a tad obsessed.
did someone mention he's old?
i reckon the fact he's approaching 60 and still writing massively successful music speaks for itself.
You don't like springsteen?
Well, each to their own.

this guy is totally irrelevant in music/political world.

I have always seen right thru his disguise of latching on to the "honest working man" to make a buck.

Guess he needs to hype up publicity again to pay the bills.

Political Panderer to only his means.

This guy is the biggest hypocrite around. First he writes an anti-NYPD song (41 shots) about the Amadou Diallo case then he has his mug all over the place at the concert tribute to the cops and fireman after 9/11. Which is it Bruce?
You haven’t made a decent album in 33 years. Go away already.

Springsteen is pissed. Really pissed. But Springsteen is smart. Deep down this is an angry album. The jilted lover he sings about are the leaders of this country and the state they've left us in. But Springsteen is smart enough to give us the sugar of some of his most gorgeous melodies ever to make the bitterness go down sweet. He truly plays the part of a magician on MAGIC, holding his cards close to the vest in beautiful music before finally dropping the veil in "LAST TO DIE," which is perhaps the most powerful indictment of the Iraq War ever written. Brendan O'Brian's influence is even clearer on this album than on THE RISING, as he modernizes Springsteen's in much the same way Jeff Lynne changed Tom Petty's sound. Contemporizing it but never overpowering it, while still keeping the emphasis and power of the work. MAGIC may not be as consistently masterful as some of Springsteen's very best work. But it is still masterful. If THE RIVER and TUNNEL OF LOVE had a baby delivered by THE RISING'S obstetrician, this is what it would be.

Yep, you are a moron. You have no taste, and no idea what makes people like Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, and U2 so special. Maybe one day when you grow up you will learn how to appreciate such things.
