Slayer, Marilyn Manson reviewed in Chicago

Nearing the Mayhem Festival must be akin to Dante's experience approaching the rim of Hades: a host of horrifying sounds echoed in the near-distance -- blood-curdling screams, desperate, guttural moans and a metallic crunch that sounded not unlike a garbage truck being run through a wood chipper.

Why didn’t you mention the fact that slayer did absolutely nothing but stand in place, the fact that you couldn’t understand a word they spoke, or that Kerry king hardly moved unless to get water from pouring sweat? On that note why did you not mention Manson was lively energetic, constantly changing props, giving the crowd different atmospheres with each song such as the American flag which may not have meant to provoke in fact it may just have been something that was to compliment the song he was singing? Why did you not mention Manson was constantly moving trying to give the audience a feeling an emotion a scene to put with his music. While slayer stood in one place as if afraid to move? Oh yes Kerry King moved his feet a few times to get some water, but other than that why is it not mentioned? So why do you down Marilyn Manson for trying to provide an amazing show with changing scenery, moods, and much better music for someone that did absolutely nothing? Perhaps its because Manson ordered the press not be out when he was out? Perhaps that Manson wouldn’t let you cover three of his songs like slayer did? Maybe I am wrong to me though it seems your simply mad at Manson as his show was actually a SHOW not just someone standing in place singing songs that you cant even make the words out.

I hate reviews like this. Shock jock blah blah blah. What about those of us that like Manson's music? Hes never said/done/worn anything thats "shocked" me.(if you can't say the same then you lead a very sheltered life) I just dig the vocals, drums, filtered guitars, industrial programming etc.

In other words; reviewing a band's performance by how shocking it is is moronic. Willie Nelson comes to town are you giving his performance a 0/5 because its not "shocking"?
