'Family Guy' Controversy Brewing - Seth MacFarlane would prefer...

They shouldn't air Family Guy until the strike's over. As much as I would like to see a new episode, I'd rather have the creator go over the episode one more time before it aired.

There's a good chance that this strike kills television as we know it.

I sympathize with the writers on strike. But if you are also a show runner then you should be showing up and doing that job. The position of showrunner should not be used as leverage - as a showrunner you have responsibility to the rest of the crew who aren't on strike.

Normally I'd agree with Seth but if Fox has these episodes completed then they should just air them and finish out November sweeps, instead of pulling the show right in the middle of the month. This stupid strike is eventually going to ruin TV.

No - this won't kill tv. This will kill on-line viewing for free.
The writers deserve a cut of the profits from DVD and on-line content - they are not paid like all these directors and actors. But the actors and directors are supporting them only cause their contracts come up soon and if the writers are successful they will then ask for their cuts too. The nets aren't going to lose money - so they will start charging US for on-line content. Like these actors or directors need more dough ?? |

Can't the studios see the damage that's already been done to the industry? A 20-rating used to be the norm just to stay on TV. Now, a 7 or 8-rating is commonplace. Viewers are leaving. They've got better things to do. And this strike will only drive more viewers away. The studios are cannibalizing themselves, and don't even realize it. Wake up! You'd better start catering to us, the viewing/paying public, because frankly, you work for us. Without the viewers, you have no high-paying executive jobs.
Americans will survive without TV. It's an easy adjustment. The studios will not survive a prolonged strike, and are kidding themselves if they think otherwise. They are killing their own industry because of their greed. Period. |

" ...and MacFarlane lacks any sort of television equivalent to final cut ..."
Well Seth, if you don't want the studios airing stuff that you don't want them to air, then in the future, you should get that specified in your contract. |

If you cooked and served meals for a living but you were only reimbursed for the cost of the ingredients and not your time and labor, would you strike?
If your food was divided up and sold in bakeries and grocery stores and you didn't see any profit but your name and reputation was attached, would you be comfortable with that practice? If you had a response to this message but had to step away for a strike and zap2it finished the response without your approval, would you hold a grudge? Everyone has an opinion of how someone else should handle their work but rarely place the hypotheticals on themselves to figure out what they would do in the situations. |

well there might not be any new episodes of family guy soon but i'm sure adult swim won't mind showin the reruns. but this strike is stupid. on the fact that they are willing to not pay & just let it completely ruin tv. hell hasn't broadway also shut down because of this strike? damn how much more will be ruined before they do something about it? i mean they might make alot of money & i'm sure some would say that they don't need anymore but if it's goin to ruin tv i say give them what they want

While I am not on the writers side on this strike, I will take MacFarlane's side here. As the creator/EP - they shouldn't air without his blessing.

The writers strike is ridiculous. I hope they get nothing more out of it. TV will go on, and people will have more shows to live by, or they could go outside.

1 Just remember folks, this union is what keeps other folks with a lot more talent off the airwaves with their protectionism. Don't believe me, try submitting a script to a TV producer. This union is worse than the Mafia for keeping people out -- probably because they know there is always better talent. |
damn i agree i mean if it wasn't for adult swim fox would HAVE NEVER gotten family guy back !!! fox should be kissing adult swims ass for constantly airing family guy because somebody there knew it was a great show which brought forth the petition & ultimately got family guy back on with new shows |
|
Hell no, if Family Guy is indicative of what these writes are capable of - shoot em all! |
|
|
right like family guy is the worst show that writers come up with..............
|
|
It didn't do it in 88 and it won't do it now. It's not that big a deal. |
|
|
Oh noes! How dare Fox air Family Guy without giving the Manatees final edit approval?!
