Congrats to Jay on delivering the goods; just one thing-this bull about remembering Harlem is a bunch of horse crap. He was raised in Brooklyn, no where near Harlem. Being a low level drug dealer for five minutes doesn't make you an all-world playa from back in the day. No one under 40 has a "back in the day" yet. Get real.

Not a classic album but for the most part, its a very solid album.

Much better than Kingdom Come, this is the album Jay has wanted to make for a looooong time.

Sensible One- I hear you in regards to the Harlem praise. Seems like everyone wants to be from Harlem nowadays.

4 out of 5.

Solid if you like some ***hole talking to a drum beat. If you want to be a singer, then sing. Rap isn't music. It's inner city bull*****.

I think he has a great guitar solo,-oops, wrong album. I think he can play the hell out of the piano-oops wrong guy.I think he sings the high notes with the best of ease- oops, wrong guy. Just what is it that he does again ???? No talent here !!! Good thing his girlfriend can keep him afloat !

as a true fan and child of the hip-hop movement I have been disappointed with hip-hop lately. I honestly wondered if I had outgrew the art form. Kingdom Come and American Gangster have proven to me that as have I, hip-hop is evolving and maturing. I won't say that American Gangster is as potent or awe inspiring as Reasonable Doubt, but I will say that if Reasonable Doubt is Jay's masterpiece American Gangster is his redeclaration of greatness.

Hip Hop can be art-whether you connect with it or not. I guarantee half of you goof balls saying otherwise can't understand a lick of a Shakespeare tragedy...but that doesn't mean it's not art, does it?
This man is a genius. Period. An entrepreneur, poet, musician....dude sneezes more talent than most could ever fathom.

no matter what people have said about Mr. Carter he is still on the top, he sends the messages of hard work and , the story of success which you can apply to everyday life, and not just in selling drugs.I own every Sean Carter cd ever made and love them all.he gets me going weather iam at work or on the way to school, it makes me want to be succesfull in life,it gets me the umph to get over those everyday up and downs.Apply Some Sean Carter to your life in a positive way , when i say in a positive way i mean by going to school and or at work and youi find yourself working harder than ever because you want all the elite things which life has to offer.Iam not a dope boy , Iam college boy trying to become a powerful and respected man in the buisness side of life.

I think Jay definently needs to retire after this album. Not because it wasn't great, but because I can not imagine how he would be able to top this album. It's like when M.J. made the game winning shot against the Utah Jazz in the NBA finals, there is nothing he could do to top that. American Gangster is the greatest album ever, and it is an album that only the Greatest Of All Time (G.O.A.T.) could deliver.

This album is a top 5 jay-z album

so curious to see what all people out there in the hip-hop world think is better than this album?

i think most ppl have been so hypnotized and become deaf by no-substance songs like "ey bay bay" and "throw some D's" etc.... u can't even train your ear to follow any song that would make you listen to it more than once to catch the lyrical twist and schematics.

It really amazes me how people comment and bash hip-hop when they dont even like it. If you dont like it, than dont waste your time posting a comment, because nobody gives a crap about what you have to say. I bought this album last night and havent had a chance to listen to it yet. No matter what this album is, Jay-z has nothing left to prove. The guy is a GENIUS. Hes had so many good albums, i cant even count them all. I'm going by your comments and trusting its good, i just had to say someting to the people who love to comment and bash jay-Z. I happen to be a fan of Rap And Rock, And Jay-Z is one of the most tallented rap artists. Thats all that should be said about him.
