Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell?
blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I love this song at the moment, I don't really have an interpretation for what it means. I just like the lyrics especially towards the end of the song "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year". I think a lot of people can relate to that, trying to discover a purpose in life when one probably doesn't even exist...

The Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday dont matter if its gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knowsShe comes and goes

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...

Dont question why she needs to be so free
Shell tell you its the only way to be
She just cant be chained
To a life where nothings gained
And nothings lost
At such a cost

Theres no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind.
Aint life unkind?

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...

I guess Tuesday is over, but I really love this song mainly because of one line. I guess I like certain parts of songs more then the entire song, but the line "Catch your dreams before they slip away" is so inspiring. I like uplifting songs and they make my day so much better...

Hey Emily this is the song I was referring to when I said that a song comes into my head when I think of you. http://au.youtube.com/watch...

That song has a sweet melody but very sad lyrics. I think I better find a better song for you.:)

I tell you songs can trick you like that, most songwriters write pretty melodies with dark lyrics.

One of my all time favorite songs is "Black" by Pearl Jam....especially the part where he says, "someday you'll be a star in somebody's elses sky ... why ... why... whyyyyyy... can't it be oh can't it beeeee MINE!!!!"

*sigh* so sadly romantic! I think I would die if someone sang that to me!

excellent taste, my friend. that album is easily one of my top faves. and it only has like five songs.

Today I have decided to go with something a little different an indie tunes instead of classic rock.

Built to spill are an indie band that has been around since the early 90's and have put out some great records. This is my favorite song that they have written.

Built to spill - Car

You get the car
I'll get the night off
You'll get the chance to take the world apart and figure out how it works
Don't let me know what you find out
I need a car
You need a guide
Who needs a map
If I don't die or worse I'm gonna need a nap
At best I'll be asleep when you get back
I wanna see it when you find out what comets, stars, and moons are all about
I wanna see their faces turn to backs of heads and slowly get smaller
I wanna see it now
I wanna see it now

I want specifics on the general idea
I wanna think what I should know
Want you to do me what to show
I wanna see movies of my dreams
I wanna see movies of my dreams
I wanna see movies of my dreams
I wanna see movies of my dreams
I wanna see it when you get stoned on a cloudy breezy desert afternoon
I wanna see it untame itself and break its owner
I wanna see it now
I wanna see it now

I think this song is about how we try to find a way of explaining everything but theres so many things that are unexplainable. Even if we can find a way of explaining these things, does it even matter? I think as humans we over analyze things to make ourselves feel more important. The more we try to understand the more we find we don't.

I don't truly have an all time favorite song, I like so many different types of music and songs that would be impossible for me to choose just one as the best.

Yeah I read that somewhere, I haven't really listen to much of Pink Floyd but what I have heard I like. I listen to a lot of 60's classic rock. I love the kinks, they are one of my favorite bands. I wonder if lola even realizes.:)

yea, i've questioned the lola thing, myself. afraid to ask her for fear of offending her, but i just have this morbid curiosity. also love that song.

if you get a chance to hear the wish you were here album, the first and last tracks are basically one huge song "shine on you crazy diamond parts 1- 10(?)," brilliant music.

Aerosmith - Dream On

Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past has gone
It went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life's in books written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Well...sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on
And dream until your dream comes true

Dream on, dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on, dream on...aaahhh

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow good Lord will take you away

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

http://au.youtube.com/watch...

I think this is a pretty simple song lyrically, it just about not letting your dreams die and live life like everyday could be your last...

I like this song because its very uplifting and gives hope.:)

Belle & Sebastian - The Fox in the snow

Fox in the snow, where do you go
To find something you can eat?
Cause the word out on the street is you are starving
Dont let yourself grow hungry now
Dont let yourself grow cold
Fox in the snow

Girl in the snow, where will you go
To find someone that will do?
To tell someone all the truth before it kills you
They listen to your crazy laugh
Before you hang a right
And disappear from sight
What do they know anyway?
Youll read it in a book
What do they know anyway?
Youll read it in a book tonight

Boy on the bike, what are you like
As you cycle round the town?
Youre going up, youre going down
Youre going nowhere
Its not as if theyre paying you
Its not as if its fun
At least not anymore
When your legs are black and blue
Its time to take a break
When your legs are black and blue
Its time to take a holiday

Kid in the snow, way to go
It only happens once a year
It only happens once a lifetime
Make the most of it
Second just to being born
Second to dying to
What else could you do?

http://au.youtube.com/watch...

I love this song mainly because of the pretty melody, but it also has some really dark themes. The lyrics seem to be talking about loneliness and being desolate. The lyrics are vague but they leave it open for many different interpretations. I like the last verse because it seems to offer hope despite being trapped in this cold world.

James Taylor - Fire and rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now

I love this song, it is very moving to me. Theres a good explanation of the meaning on this website. http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/firerain.as...

Hey Ronnie!
I totally like this song, but not when it's done by the Rolling Stones (I know that they did do the original though)...I'm really not a fan of the Stones at all, but I do like alot of their songs when other groups do them.
I like the version of Ruby Tuesday done by an Irish group, the Corrs. That song is on their "Live in Dublin" CD. Check it out sometime.
"Breathless" is on that same CD too...awesome song!
(I love Karaoke...ever do that?...and I love to dance too).
