Holy Sheet, is Heartland bullshitting again!

Ok, ok. So it is what they do. Just as Earthling spins and spams to draw attention. He is nothing if not a fan of the spotlight.

"People are more likely to believe that humans cause global warming if they are told that 97 percent of publishing climate scientists agree that it does, a new study has found."

And of course, the FACT is that 97% of climate scientists DO agree with AGW theory that states that the planet is warming and that this is 'mostly' due to GHG emission from industy.

Tell them the truth and they will accept it.

97% you mean 77 out of 79 climate scientist responded to a two question internet survey.

You think that will convince the general public? Well I guess you're somewhat right, it convinced you.

Right. You maintain your denierism because it suits your pocket, but not your mind.

No. I mean all the surveys. Check the refernces or did you put your mind into neutral again?

Admittedly, the surveys of academy members and published scientists don't count EVERY one, but then statistics is well understood to be valid for even a 1% sampling. All that you could challenge would be maybe 0.1% uncertainty in the sampling error for the larger study.

But to limit argument, would you accept that the sampling of 79 climate scientists would have to be accurate to about 2%? in which case the statistic is 95%+. Does that really signify a 'doubt' about AGW theory. No. You are, for some reason, pissing into the wind, and making a fool of yourself.

No. But 79 or 77 self proclaimed climate scientists is no where near enough to convince the general public. If it was then you wouldn't see 97%, you'd see '77 scientists think man has caused climate change'.

What you see is 97% because it sounds so much bigger than 77 scientists.

Yes there are other surveys. There's the one where abstracts were reviewed to determine a consensus. More than two thirds of the reviewed abstracts were pro agw. Then a determination was made as to how many times each of the papers were referenced in other studies.

This survey is way to esoteric to convince most people and appears to be very slanted in its sampling techniques. The average guy out here in general public can tell when something smell right.

Most know that if you had the science, you wouldn't need surveys to show consensus.

The 77 figure is *actively publishing* climate scientists.

Just how many do you think there are?

Right. When are you going to learn the science?

Let's start with the greenhouse effect. That's enough for anyone: the man-made ever-increasing greenhouse gas emissions into our atmosphere are responsible for the ongoing climate change.

Most of your posts are in that class.

For something that smells right, watch Dr Cicerone's vids.

He thinks there are "thousands" of them, all in agreement.

Over the global science scene, there are thousands of them. And all statistical studies agree that MOST (~97%, not all) are in agreement with AGW theory. As usual, you drip 'red herring' distortions.

Note: Specifically, in the AGU (the premier US organization) there are 751 specializing in 'global climate change' and 634 specializing in paleo-climatology. Allied science such as atmospherics count for ten or eleven thousand more though they are not quite 'climate scientists' and the 97% agreement may not cover those..

The 97% figure is actively publishing climate scientists: more like a couple of hundred.

But the actual figure appears to be a mystery, even though someone, somewhere must know.

1. Define climate scientist?
2. Define actively publishing?
