So?

Not too shabby for a sleepy mountain village, on the banks of a narrow river, with aspirations of someday becoming a city.
James Agee did for Knoxville what Mark Twain did for Hannibal, Mo. I've read Agee's work and I'm pretty impressed. Thanks James wherever you are for your contribution to Knoxville! |

I was an extra in this movie. I remember missing school and dressing in different clothing. We did get paid, I don't rememberhow much.I know the Sentinal got a picture of me and another girl, which was put in the paper, pretty cool, even then. I met Robert Preston and actually got his autograph, which I still have today......such good memories

My father,Knoxville attorney Martin Southern, lived on Highland Avenue near where James Agee grew up. He vividly remembered when Agee's father died in the accident and actually talked to the little boy (Rufus) a few days later. The movie was filmed in a house across the alley from our family home. Mother enjoyed talking about watching much of the filming and spoke of how nice Robert Preston was.

I remember standing in front of Parkers Grocery at the corner of 17'th and Grand and watching the horse drawn and horseless carriages circle the block up at the top of the hill, I was about ten. Good times, the world rotated much slower then, sometimes I wish I could go back.
