Elisabeth is an outstanding personality, whatever one might say of her past Nazi connection.
In a recent article published last month on the MET Magazine, Elisabeth voiced out her views on the operatic world of the 21st century, with such wisdom and insight that a cetenarian would offer.
She condemned the 'avant garde' nudity in modern operatic productions, to which I could not be agree with. However much would people acclaim the 'Salome' of Karita Mattila, I found the performance distasteful - why a reknown personnel would succumb to the unnecessary nude performance is some thing that one should really reflect upon. I am not against nudity on stage per se. It has to be convincing - would Salome be nude IN THE CONTEXT? Was it in the Jewish custom at the era of Christ? One should be able to answer this question first before considering whether to succumb to the 'requirement' of nudity on stage re Salome. If Oscar Wilde intended it, then the production should not resort to the veil dance - it should be an outright striptease show in a cabaret. But is that what the story's about in the first place? The placing things out of context is really baffling.
Furthermore, Elisabeth is open-minded in cross-nation cultural exchanges: she believes that the Western operatic culture will find development via Eastern artists. This is very much a differnet person from the old image painted by the press in the past.
