Countdown begins for private spaceflight By Diana M. Alba
UPHAM, N.M. Bottle of champagne in hand, British billionaire and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson on Monday christened Spaceport America's diamond feature a $32.5 million terminal-hangar that one day will house the vehicles belonging to his fledgling spaceline by rappelling off the building's face, accompanied by a troupe of aerial dancers.

"Martinez ... said the spaceport was at the start of the "second space age" and touted the 550 permanent jobs it will create. She said the number that could grow to 2,000."
Lemme guess. Most of those will be janitors cleaning up the place, burger flippers, people changing the hotel room linens and towels after the rich folks have had their joy ride, etc. All basically minimum wage stuff.
Meanwhile the few jobs requiring some sort of education and paying living wages (like the engineering design and development) will go out-of-state contractors and workers, and the hardware will be trucked in for launch.
"Making its second visit to the spaceport was the (Vigin Galactic) two-vehicle system, under development in Mojave, Calif., that will launch from Spaceport America, possibly in 2013."
Uh yup, at least three years behind the original launch schedule of 2010. There has been at least two major delays since then. Anybody wanna bet against more delays? If so, I have title to a bridge in Brooklyn I want to sell you.
"Construction on the terminal-hangar should be done in late November, nearly a year behind schedule, spaceport officials have said."
What a crock. See my comment above, it applies to the construction schedule too.
"Pearce said the project is not only an economic engine, but it's also at the forefront of a new venture for humanity"
Uh yup. I'm paying the extra sales tax (oddly named a "gross receipts tax") as the economic engine to build the worthless place. Hey Pearce, taxes are not exactly a new venture by politicians to fleece the peasants.

Well it is nice to see Sir Richard Branson do a wire dance on the windows of the building us tax payers paid for
Playlist on youtube for those of us who did not get an invitation.
I hope he covered the payment for the entertainment, and not the NM gov't.

I see the inspiration for that foundation they were using for dancing four-play. And the second video shows virgingalactic leader calling it s e x y before going on to similarly describe the 'mother ship' Eve as a beast.
Rules of marketing says S3X sells. No need for subtlety. See for yourself.
The medical mannequin used at U Mich. Oddly they call her Eva

For less than half the price charged at SPNM, citizen astronauts will be able to fly from spaceport Australia for a beer in space tour. I kid you not. The view, the 5-10 minute sub orbital elevation, a trip to down under and a brew.
NM may start to offer chile treats served by the flight attendants to compete.
