I took my high school prom date to the London House in Spring 1966 to see Oscar Peterson play (dating a jazz lover-THAT impressed my musically-oriented family!).
It was a stellar performance, my date was beautiful (though our relationship didn't make it much past graduation!) but I remember that night very well.
Thank you, Oscar..make those heavenly melodies!

RIP, Oscar. His Christmas album is a staple in my house around this time of the year, which made his death particularly sad for me.

Reading about the golden age of piano jazz in Chicago makes me want to ask: who are the prominent jazz pianists in the city today?

What an inspiration you were for us, Oscar. Thank you for your music. We'll miss you terribly. And congratulations to Howard Reich for a tribute that Chicago can be proud of. You've certainly scooped the rest of the city on this momentous musical occasion.
