So far as his late coming is concerned, just yesterday in an special programme of India TV, actor Ramesh Deo (Doctor Kulkarni of Anand) told that Kaka was shooting for half dozen films simultaneously so it was impossible to reach timely. Moreover, while he was ready to be out from his Bungalow, producers, script writers etc. were used to get him busy with discussion for their new films. So there were so many such factors which were beyond his control for getting late.

Devanandfab wrote: <quoted text> Excellent points. In fact Sahara Samay ran the Headline "Bin Godfather ke Bollywood mein Raj Kiya" during the recent media coverage on Kaka. Rajesh Khanna Scaled and settled at heights none can come close. But then why this media bashing and silence?(Here's a hint: Why is Kapil Dev an unmentionable? Because he took on BCCI) Rajesh Khanna organized a private party on the same day as the Film Fare awards. That was unforgivable to the biradiri (Bollywood). They needed a candidate to stand up against him. AB was chosen. He had acted against RK in Namak Haram, and RK perhaps unwisely had "Praised him in private at the screening of Namak Haram". But even this was not enough. There were leaks galore about how unprofessional and late he was. In contrast AB was great. But Box Office success of AB was only with multi-starrers. When ever he strayed and tried to do a meaningful role (Like RK had done-he took many unconventional roles) the producers lost money. Through out the 1980's RK kept coming back. Post 1984 was bad for AB. Recently had the chance to listen to Jaya Prada reminisce about movies they did together. She said the movies were good movies with excellent songs. It was really fascinating to see her genuine admiration for RK. RK has been the king and just Anand, Amar Prem and Dushman and AAradhana give him 4Aces that are unbeatable. Dev Fan - Thanks very much. And also for highlighting Nag Shankar's excellent post which I has missed earlier. The TV programs on him over the last few days have been rehashing the same thing over and over again which is from the start of his career till 1974. Nothing beyond that. Lazy journos copy/pasting from each other and interspersing them with the same songs. There are so many other lovely songs of his that they don't seem to know about and care to highlight. And since he's being celebrated as much for his talent as the craze he created, you would think they would include snippets from some other great films rather than the same old 'Pushpa I hate tears' from 'Amar Prem'. Maybe one of those lazy buggers will end up here, see yours and Nag's posts and then incorporate into their new pieces on him. Clearly the TRPs must going through the roof when they do these programs because they simply haven't STOPPED since the news of his illness broke around June 20th! Blasted vultures.*end rant*

Suhan- thanks. But the wider point is why is the media getting away with an incomplete and factually wrong story? Because RK and his family have not tried to correct them.(may be because RK did not have a family to support him until now?) And we all know that a story that does not get corrected is assumed to be true. And this has been going on for at least 30 years. IIRC, it was only Devi who was countering this. After her death, the anti-RK lobby has been given a free rein. It is time Twinkle/Akshay and Dimple now unleash their own PR to get back what is rightfully theirs.

Kaka or his family may not be interested about his self promotion, however, the Wikipedia says below date about his stature along with references: Rajesh Khanna was awarded Filmfare Special Award in 1991 for having starred in 101 films as the solo lead hero and just 21 two hero films in short span of 25 years. Khanna gave 35 Golden Jubilee Hits in period 1967-1975 and 3 in 1976-78 and 35 more in 1979-1991 and gave 22 Silver Jubilee Hits in period 1966-1991.

Common people has been misguided by the hired media especially during 76-78 period and to some extent during 80s as well. However, Kaka, after Amardeep and onwards films slapped all anti-Kaka-lobby with his powerful robust performances with commercial successful films in 80s till 1991 Swarg. And still nobody has the guts to remake any one of those class films of Kaka, such as Babu, MLA, Dhanwan, Dard, etc. etc. etc. etc.......... Just yesterday in India TV Super special Programme on Kaka, Actor Raja Murad said that Superstar like Kaka is born once in a Millenium.

You should learn that Film is not pure business, it is art as well. And Kakaji always preferred it so he performed Anand, Safar, Haathi Mere Saathi, Palko Ki Chaon Main, MLA, Red Rose, Dhanwan, Khudai, Mamta Ki Chaon Main etc. etc. type all time class films without bothering box office status of these films. And still after four decades audiences regard Kakaji as Golden Actor and Original Superstar of India. Don or Lawaris may be performed by any Tom Dick Harry etc. but people can not imagine one Anand or Amar Prem or Avatar or Dhanwan or MLA or Babu without Rajesh Khanna, because impact of these films are still as fresh as it was four decades ago.

But Kaka still wants for remaking of Aradhana, certainly not for money making purpose only. After all we should also think over the artistic aspect of the film media along with commercialization.

This Economic Times article says Kaka was highest paid actor between 70 and 79 and shared the Highest paid actor tag with AB between 1980 and 87...I know it doesn't matter anymore but Indian media has certainly proved its dumbness...the industry needs to be regulated....

Baffling... IMO his real success was in 79 when chips were down...
