May I romantic with you??? I feel romantic whenever I see Rajesh Khanna in an outdated outfit but extremely smart lip singing a song, "Yeah shaam mastani madhosh keye jaye" with whistling intervals and strikingly beautiful heroine in his sight and with beautiful scenery around... ohh...gosh...I feel romantic. Or when I listen " Jiss galli mein tera ghar na ho sajna uss galli say hamain tu guzarna nahi"(Mukesh), or when I am listening to, " Tum sang naina lagay manay nahi jee a ra" (Rubina Badar), sometimes I suddenly fell into the nausea or the trance or charisma of ," Woh Ishq jo hum say rooth gaya" (Farida Khanum). I couldnt help falling in the background of these songs or the poets who wrote them or the people who sung these songs or ghazal. No offense, "baat tu sach hay per baat hay ruswayee key", but I couldn't find any single person around me worth these lyrics or music. I want to picture my husband or my friends or my lover in these songs but couldn't. There is something more in these songs..more than our worldly love...more than our narrow desires. I wonder what was going on at that time with the poet who wrote the lyrics or with the singer who sung them...who...they were picturing in their heart? Were their picture is of flesh and blood??? "Jiss chaman mein tere pag mein kantay chubhay....uss chaman say hamain phool chunna nahi", or, " tum ko manao kaisay manay nahi jee a raa".... I only feel this love or loyalty or desire or falling only towards my MAKER - Allah. the author then goes on praising Allah - Kaka ...God's creation lives on.......abroad also....in India also.....in our hearts |

Thai crazy to see me with Rajesh Khanna: Hema Malini Updated: Jul-21-2007 Email this Page Mumbai, July 20 (IANS) Hema Malini thinks the sari isn't being accorded the respect it deserves at international events. The epitome of grace and beauty as always had her sari ready for the Bangkok International Film Festival, which had a retrospective on her. 'And it was worn with the dignity that the apparel deserves,' Hema told IANS. 'I see it being worn in strange ways at these events where our representatives are being watched by millions. The pallu is awry and the girls end up looking undignified. Just because you want to show off your curves it doesn't mean you can wear the sari like that.' Her younger daughter Ahana accompanied her to the festival that started Thursday. Incidentally, there was a story in Hema's heydays about how she never repeated her saris. 'Yes that's true,' Ahana said.'My mother would buy so many Kanjeevarams. Nowadays it's even tougher to repeat the sari since the media catches the repetition and highlights it.' Hema's first retrospective was shown at the festival. 'I took personal interest in selecting the films. Initially, I didn't realise the importance of this honour. We finally selected five of my films -'Lal Patthar','Sholay','Baghban','D illagi' and 'Khushboo',' said Hema who was very keen on including the 1974 starrer . 'But that film has already been much-seen in that part of the world. In Thailand they're crazy about seeing me and Rajesh Khanna together.' Hema is in Bangkok till July 21. |

Alok:
Thanks for your posting. Incidently Kaka did max no of movies with Hema. However in early seventies both of them were paired opposite other actresses/actors yet they manitain no 1 position. Kaka was undoubtedly no 1 among actors and Hema was considered no 1 among the actresses. Andaz was the only movie featuring both of them in that era. Every where people used to tell stylish boys and girls as Rajesh Khanna and Hema malini. Hema malini certainly enjoyed similar kind of craze which Kaka witnessed. |
Rajesh Khanna was number#1 from 1969 to 1974. When was the period for Hema? Thanks in advance |
1979 onwards she started losing her popularity may be due to her marriage and putting on weight
1972- 78- she acted mostly with
Dharmendra, Dev Anand, Manoj Kumar, Jeetendra in that period |
As per my understanding 1970-77. |
Wow! That is longer span than Rajesh Khanna's. Usually it was much shorter span for heroins.... She enter Bollywood in 1969 and got to the top in 1970? That fast? From my search (not much)..., She did only get award not until Seeta aur Geeta in 1972? ...the next probing question would be... What was the most successful movies of hers in 1970 (that launch the popularity)? |
I feel she was recognised in 1970 and became a star only in 1971. Abhinetri,Sharafat,Johny Mera Naam 1970 were her recognition. 1971 she was super heroine ( naya zamana, andaz, lal pathar). She rocked in Seeta aur Geeta in 1972 where Dharmendra and Sanjeev Kumar were given side roles. In Sholay 1975 she had the 4th most important role after Gabbar, Thakur, Veeru. Amitabh took her support in Kasauti. Played her brother in Gehri Chaal. Rakesh Roshan took her support in Paraya Dhan. Dharmendra always took her support. Earlier he was supported by Meena Kumari. Hema took her position then. She used to call the shots and gave life to older heroes- Rajendra Kumar ( Gora aur Kala), Manoj Kumar ( Sanyasi, 10 Numbri), Dev Anand ( Johny Mera Naam, Joshila, Shareef Budmash, Chuppa Rustom). Her best performances came with Jeetendra ( Dulhan, Khushboo, Kinara)
I think Alok already replied that. I feel at the time of Johny Mera Naam, she was already leading the ranking. |
People saw Johny Mera Naam and recognised her. Poor Johny only got the name.
She captured attention with O mere Raja.... |
the bombing of Dream Girl in 1977 stopped her dream run but she had a no of flops every year in fact had collusal flops like Joshila, Shareef Badmash, Sharafat Chod do mene, Jaaneman, Sunhara Sansar, Babul ki Galiyan etc.. But Dream Girl plus the weigh factor put her behind and the other south indian Rekha steamed ahead with Ghar, Mukaddar ka Sikandar, Umrao Jaan etc.
