Ab jab awards ki baat chali hai....I feel some of Kakaji's songs are such magical and rare gems....that they on their own could win the 'Bharat Ratna'!!! I am starting off with one here:

Bheegi bheegi raton mein(Ajnabee): Haunting music, beautiful and meaningful lyrics, Rajesh Khanna oozing oodles and oodles of magnetic charm. You don't know what's hitting you... but by the time it finishes, one is left sighing dreamily!!! Can love be so enchanting and magical ever??

I shall list more later. Request others to contribute heartily. But, mind you....to be a Bharat Ratna song, it should be rare...full of 100% magic...once in a lifetime, matchless composition...that leaves you in a state of raw emotion!!

there are so many i don't know which one to come up with first.the song "gulabi ankhen"from the train.,is wonderful.the song and the dance movements captures exuberance and spontaniety.if you carefully examine vrk's movement is really spontaneous ,and throwing up his hands also shows real feeling.its not the calculated and robotic movements we see now even in delicate romantic numbers.it shows childlike ecstasy and delight.whenever i hear this song it becomes "samhalna mushkil."

Good one! It is a very fiesty song....I guess you are are very young woman!!

But, I reckon a Bharat Ratna song would be one that touches your 'soul' somewhere whenever you hear it, a magical blend of music, lyrics and acting that leaves you in a state of emotional wonder everytime you hear it. Example- Madubala in one such song-'More Panghat' from Mughle-Azam. Kya costumes, kya bol, kya music, kya expressions...or kya madhubala!!! Matchless!!

Kakaji has many such songs...but I reckon that even he would not have more than five or six such songs!!

According to me the song " Zindagike safar me guzar jathehai jomakaam " from Aap Ki Kasam is the best all time Bharat Ratna song which touches our heart. Feel like listening again & again.

Deeper analysis of the magic in the song 'Bheegi bheegi raton mein..',

a) Kakaji's body language is so sensuous in the opening sequence when he walks over to Zeenat and pulls her over. Those were the days when millions of girls were 'burning in love' for Rajesh Khanna....and Kakaji's walk reflects the magnetism of a man who knows how phenomenally attractive he is!! It is said Kakaji was so naughty that he would let the girls keep on waiting outside his house for days together, so that when he appeared they swooned with delirium! Relatives had to carry the fainted women away!!!

b) He tries to do some dance steps with Zeenat that that showcase the natural grace of his body. Although, when he slides across the wet floor, it is a bit clumsy!! In those days, fitness was not a fad...and actors did not focus on their dancing and workouts. But, it would have been great if Rajesh Khanna had spent some time practicing dancing and kept his fitness levels. What we have missing in his entire film career is a full-fledged dance-based song. Maybe he did not want to do it...

c) Zeenat looks so decent by his side. She got a very different image later on in masala films. Zeenat was good freinds with RK in his last years...they even went to Shirdi together. Lasting relationships/friendships ...reflect so well and so strongly in RK's favour!! It is not the love of fans who see him only on screen that tells us about what he really was....but, it is the unconditional love of people around him, his family, his servants and his associates that tells us about the man he was- solid and dependable!!

d) I shudder to think what a loss it would have been if this song had not gone to kakaji but someone else!!

Fully agree. This song qualifies as a 'Bharat Ratna' song!! Rajesh Khanna looks so broken..it is said that women slit their wrists in sheer agony in theaters when this song came up in the movie.

The lyrics of this song are phenomenal - there is so much meaning and philosophy hidden. Volumes can written on every line of the song. This song and another one,'Zindagi kaisi ek paheli hai...' are both very similar - all Rajesh Khanna does is walking, but his face, the situation, and what he is singing - the lines- are so powerful that the listener is just transfixed- frozen in time!!

Kya baat hai, Chris!! Kya gaana pakda hai!! Yes, this song also qualifies to be a 'Bharat Ratna' song!! Rather than me, an old man, I suggest you list out/describe the feelings brought out and effects created by this song!! It was cinema's first single take song- the director forgot to say 'Cut'!! Ha!Ha!

In fact, Chris, I hold this 'one' song responsible for the brickbats RK faced for Wafaa!! Even after 40 years people could not forget the smouldering young Rajesh in this song...therefore, they refused to accept the 'impotent' old Rajesh in Wafaa!!!

Thank you dadamoniji. One more point I would like to add, most of the songs for kaka films are written by his favourite lyrist ANAND BAKSHI. Some how the songs written by anand bakshi + music by RD Burman + action by kaka + Kishoreda's golden voice = Evergreen Hit. The team has given numerous hit songs which will remain for ever.

Indo ji, How are are you? Long time since you posted on the forum!! You have been missed!!

Yeh Shaam Mastani - I would give it a Padma Vibhushan!! This because, although the music is heavenly, the situation is fantastic- forbidden love for a widow- the lyrics are not really extraordinary. It hits you...but it doen't hit you deep in the gut!! Kakaji, of course, has rendered this song in trademark Rajesh Khanna style!! Asha Parekh is also very captivating as the beautiful widow with huge expressive eyes and a graceful manner!

Dear Dadamoniji What you would give to this song

"Aye ye jo Mohhabbat haia...! Ye unka haia kaam, Aare mahboob ka jo bas lete hue naam!Mar jaye mit jaye ho jaye badnaaaaaam.Rahne do chodho bhi jane do yaar haum na karinge pyar.......

Aankhi kisi se na uljh jaye maia drta hu, Yaaro haseeno ki gali se maia gujrta hu.Bas door hi se karke salaaaaam...
Marvelous.
