That's because you're American and don't have a clue.
Royal families are symbols of a nation and bring in millions of dollars in tourist revenue.
Getting rid of the British royal family is illogical. They are an identity, much like the union jack. They may be a pain in the PR department at times but I bet this wedding will have tourists dollars coming in.
So, yeah. I don't know why Americans hate royals but I bet it's because all we have in this crap hole country is drug induced over-paid sports figures to look up too. At least the Queen of England has class. Now go back to spending 150 bucks on a Romo jersey you ****.
And I read that "The Queen" is the worlds largest landowner, as well.
Hard to get rid of the landlord when she owns the continent (or was it 1.5 continents?).
Gotta love the robber-barons of old. OOPS! I guess we've still got them, don't we!

"Conquered" would be the word I have a problem with. Maybe people didn't want to be conquered, so what does that make Anglo Saxons?
Anyone who has more wealth than others and tries to get a heating "grant" set aside for low income hospitals, ect.. is just plain GREEDY and totally out of touch with reality. Maybe she could sell some of her royal jewels?

It may interest you to know that our Royal Family costs each member of the British public the equivalent of 68p ($1.13) a year each. I spend five times that much a day on coffee. Do some reading before you speak, you ignorant little man.
Will they be around in 100 or 200 years? I don't know but I hope so. They don't hold political gravitas any more, they act as figure heads, envoys and as living breathing parts of our country's history and heritage, sources of revenue for the country's tourist market. European is scattered with Royal Families, it's just an inevitable result of a history you've yet to develop in America. You're welcome to take an interest, but inevitably it has nothing to do with you, so don't be so ignorant and back off.
Our Royal Family are our Royal family. We as a nation will decide if they stay or if they go, perhaps you should meet a few British people before you arrogantly speak?
You're objects are symbolic ones and you're entitled to them - just don't base them on half facts.
