Britain Apologizes for Pope Jokes

Britain's Foreign Office issued a hasty apology Sunday to Pope Benedict XVI after publication of an internal memo in which officials joked he could open an abortion clinic, launch a range of condoms or sing a duet with Queen Elizabeth II during a four-day visit in September. Full Story

Meh, the whole reason you support the pope is because you'll believe almost anything.
That's why you think his visit to the UK was anything other than an insult and a burden on the taxpayers.
... if that is the truth then you can test it.

Why did so many thousands turn up and cheer for the Pope and why did the leader of the country praise the Pope profusely.

I rest my case.

The popes live mass in glasgow attracted 70,000 people, mianly catholics. The celtic match in glasgow last week attracted 50,000 people, mainly catholics. Of course celtic play every week and not all catholics like football.

The majority of catholics in the UK disagree with the popes stance on homosexuality and the use of contraception to halt the spread of AIDS.

So while many went to see him as the head of catholocism most catholics don't even agree with his 'moral standards'. When most catholics think he's stuck in the past with his archaic beliefs, what do you suppose everyone else thinks?

As for why David Cameron was nice to the pope: He could have been a complete asshole towards the pope, telling him what his job is and being a condescending mental case. That of course would be reducing himself to the popes level and the British prime minister is above that.

We're polite to foreign dignitaries, even ones we don't like. Robert Mugabe is a knight of the realm so I guess we like him more than ratburger.

That's such a confused post that I find it difficult to motivate myself.

If you love Robert Mugabe, go right ahead declare your devotion in public. You wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I prefer him to the pope. He's killed less people and isn't a direct threat to the UK.

It will be hard for any 'long standing' British citizen to debate with you on this one. The real question is:'Is it too late to change this path?'

However, being a rhetorical question, it really answers itself.

Which leaves the only question worth a damn. When will disaster from all the madness of the last few Governments hits us so hard we will never recover? That is the only question that none of us have the answer for. But, myself, I'll give it a decade at best!

The labour party is no different than the Tories when it comes to foreign policy.
They both have the same policy. Suck up to the Americans, even when there are other peoples lives at stake.
They have wrecked this country between the both of them, and this so called, multiculturalism, is heading us down a disaster road.
When people bring their culture to this country, they, more often or not, bring their religion with them, and then demand that we respect it.
Why should we respect any religion?
I have no problem with people believing what they want, but I do have a problem with the government bending over backwards trying not to offend religious peoples feelings.

I'm afraid change creeps in unnoticed, and after an economic hardships or two, that which has changed becomes the new status quo. The way it's always been.

Only by preserving traditions, can society continue as before. This country is all too keen to throw traditions out of the window. It's nice to see nostalgia books and things though. I noticed Lan Titchmarsh has one in the shops now. It's nice to just leaf through it.

Like I said, Topix is all about Jews and Muslims.

You can't get away from those idiots. If they managed to arrive at a peaceful 2 state solution in Palestine/Israel, then the world would be a better place. I'd give them 1 year starting 01/01/11 to achieve a solution, and if one is not in place and signed, then we drop the biggest A-bomb around on 01/01/12 and remove the issue from world history.

I'm not a historian, but I'm sure future generations would approve!
