Can you give us a hint as to why you believe the CC was behind *capitalism (economic), or *democracy (political), or the concept of *human rights?
Perhaps you are giving the CC credit for ancient Greece, the Age of Enlightenment, and the role of liberal Protestantism.
Remember, it was liberal Protestants who first gave Catholics the right to vote, NOT the other way around. And Mr. Carroll was about as liberal a Catholic as there was back then.
No doubt there is much the CC set in motion, but to give the CC credit for things that it ACTIVELY opposed for centuries is absurd.
Maybe when one tries to claim all the credit for themselves alone, the absurdity blinds people to the real accomplishments.

To address this challenge at its root, I believe it is vital that we remind ourselves of the extent to which the Catholic faith is a force for good in the world. Jesus said:“You will know them by their fruits,” and even some outside the Church appreciate her fruitfulness. In 2007, for example, an atheist businessman, Robert Wilson, gave $22.5 million (£13.5 million) to Catholic education in New York, arguing that,“without the Roman Catholic Church, there would be no western civilisation.”

1. Protestant acceptance of artificial birth control is relatively recent. Prior to the 1930s Protestants were just as opposed to the use of artificial birth control as is the Catholic Church, and they preached against it as well.
2. For your information and education:
BIRTH CONTROL METHODS THAT MIGHT CAUSE ABORTION
Intrauterine Device (IUD)- A small device shaped in the form of a "T" that is placed inside the uterus by a health care provider. It works to prevent fertilization by keeping sperm from entering the fallopian tubes and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is less than 1%.*
Depo-Provera - Hormones delivered through injections, or shots, in the buttocks or arm every three months. It prevents ovulation, thickens the mucus lining so as to prevent fertilization, and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is less than 1%.*
Oral Contraceptives (Birth Control Pills)- Delivers hormones orally through a daily pill that prevents ovulation, thickens the mucus lining so as to prevent fertilization, and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is 5%.*
The Patch (Ortho Evra)- Hormones delivered through a skin patch worn on the lower abdomen, buttocks, or upper body. It prevents ovulation, thickens the mucus lining so as to prevent fertilization, and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is 5%.*
The Hormonal Vaginal Contraceptive Ring (NuvaRing)- Hormones delivered through a ring that is inserted into the vagina for three weeks at a time. It prevents ovulation, thickens the mucus lining so as to prevent fertilization, and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is 5%.*
Emergency Contraception ("Morning After" Pill, Postcoital Contraception, Plan B, etc.)- Delivers hormones orally through a high-dosage pill that prevents ovulation, thickens the mucus lining so as to prevent fertilization, and thins the lining of the uterus, which may prevent implantation if fertilization does occur. The estimated failure rate is 1%.*
*Department of Health & Human Services. "Birth Control Methods," http://www.womenshealth.gov/publications/our-... (Nov 21, 2011)
==========
(My note: The phrase "to prevent implantation" is another term for abortion. Birth control pills do not merely suppress ovulation, which in itself is against God's commands. Some are outright abortifacients, and all are potentially so. The promotion of their use is decidedly not pro-life. The ends does not justify the means...a lesser evil is never permitted in order to bring about what one may perceive as a "greater good".)
...... Roman catholic church for centuries burned people at the stake because they disagreed with the church, but now the church claims to be the champions for human life, and criticizes anyone who disagrees with them. HUH!!

....Your church has a terrible history when it comes to issues of humanity. You should really learn your church history and stop patting them on the back.

Sexual revolution was NOT started by any religious,...it's,all part of the secular if it feels, good movement .....
And let's,not forget Catholics, for choice and that large percentage of Catholics who voted liberal
A,smaller percentage of PROTS.
The Evangelical movement is,definitely pro life...get married.....
Blame them for Catholic sin...
Right....really nice ..
I lived through all this, mess and we were so foolish to see these, people as,the fringe
Now,they teach our children
And infest the college's...again nit religious..
Kicked God out of the schools....
Blaming the Protestants, for the breakdown in the,US is,still nonsense.
The excuse,was,EMPOWER WOMEN..not a,religious,idea,
In that context ....And you know,it
Do I think BC if used correctly would PREVENT most abortions...You bet ...
But the Protestants, which o approve are not saying indiscriminate ,sex is,a,good thing ...in any way shape or form.....
Did you look up the sixties...plan by Cloward st all Ayers...make uncle daddy ...And that's,what they've Done!!!!
Has,no place for God in it..pure socialism and bring down capitalism
Do you think at judgement God is,going to say I forgive you CATHOLUCS,who voted for abortion candidates....the Protestants, said BC was,ok ..so you get a,pass on promoting murder????
Get real...Catholics get abortions...use BC because,THEY WANT TO....nothing to do with Protestants ...And if we,Christians,WOUKD have gone to the polls, for conservatives ...we would not be in this, mess,
Pointing fingers,is,ugly ...
The,BC pill came into use in the sixties...there was,no reason for the proliferation of abortion OR out of wedlock babies,...but again government policy promoted NO DADDY AT HOME...And abortion as,BC ..
Wrong Rose, you miss the point entirely. I'm not blaming protestants for the sexual revolution, that was definitely a secular movement. What I do blame, in part, is the protestant acceptance of artificial birth control which LED to the idea that sex was just for pleasure and selfishly EXCLUDES the conception of children. God created us as sexual beings for the purpose of bearing fruit and multiplying, and in His wisdom made it pleasurable so as to, I suppose, increase the likelihood that we'd actually do it on a regular basis. Artificial birth control REJECTS God's desire that the act must include the possibility of creating more children for His glory. It becomes a selfish act by selfish people who put their own pleasure before love of God.

And FYI, YES many Catholics use BC. They are violating strict Catholic teaching which is based on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If THEY put themselves in that position, they will answer for it. BUT the Church will always abide by Christ and His teachings. Catholics who vote for abortion supporters are wrong, and they are supporting something the Church opposes. They will be judged for that. Many are misguided in the idea that liberal social programs to help the poor and homeless can be of more effect in the short run than holding out for overruling a supreme court decision.

We just have to observe every day violence to comprehend that human anger is responsible for the violence.

Observe the nasty ways people treat each other with words on this forum ... and then you will see that human nature has nothing in common with evil or holiness ... or with gods or devils. It has to do with emotional agitation and not being able to control anger in the selves.

You will see the same violence in other animals when they perceive that things don't go their way.
