Of course the hierarchy didn't want the followers to learn to read the bible as they knew that there would be too many different interpretations of the words and that would cause the followers to break away and start other religions.

The hierarchy knew that would occur, because it was exactly what occurred in Judaism when some Jews read the old testament and decided to start a new religion that later became Christianity.

Protestantism did to Catholicism what Catholicism had done to Judaism.

And the Jews did the same before them and on and on back through religious history.

Religious right-fighters keep having babies and the babies grow up to be religious right-fighters that start more and more religious right-fighting cults.

Amen Pope Pius. I'm conversing with one of them right now. If you could only see what sola scripture has done to Christianity.(we're at 45,000 now)

Do you have any links where the Roman Catholic Church BANNED the Bible?
They banned the reading of the bible for their own followers, and they hoped that all people of the words would become followers of their own brand of Catholicism.
>>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>

From the book,“The Papal Conspiracy Exposed, and Protestantism Defended,” by Rev. Edward Beecher, published in 1855, comes the following……

In England the penalty for daring to read the Bible in the vernacular tongue was TO BE BURNED ALIVE. The inquisitors and ecclesiastics carried on a persecution against the disciples of Wickliffe, for a century and a half on this ground, and many were burned alive. In 1519 seven persons were burned alive at Coventry, having been convicted of the crime of having the Scriptures in their possession, or portions of same. Such scenes were extensively repeated.

You and mojo should team up. The only thing he can say in defense of Rome is, "there are 38,000, 40,000, 42,000 denominations". LOL LOL Hey cly, list these denominations or shut your pie hole. I will wait(but not hold my breath)for your reply. Get with mojo. He can be your resource for excess BOLOGNA. LOL

The only difference between the mafia and the Catholic hierarchy was that the mafia didn't promise salvation.

And the Protestants were every bit as brutal as were the Catholics.

And the Jews were every bit as brutal as the Catholics and Protestants in their demands to dictate what the "god" demanded of the people and to be followed.

Forced conversion was common among the right-fighters.

The Maccabees also spelled Machabees Machabi (Latin) or Machado from Latin (marculatum) that means "Hammer" (Greek/) were a Jewish rebel army that took control of Judea, which had been a client state of the Seleucid Empire. They founded the Hasmonean dynasty, which ruled from 164 BCE to 63 BCE, reasserting the Jewish religion, expanding the boundaries of the Land of Israel, by conquest, which included instances of forced conversion, reducing the influence of Hellenism and Hellenistic Judaism.

Banned?? No sir, the Bible is entwined with the Catholic faith, it could never be banned.

The Church forbade private interpretations because knuckleheads like you, were interpreting Christianity themselves and undoing what Jesus Christ taught. Heck, the first batch of fundies who read Revelation when their new handy Bible arrived, ran off in a rabid frenzy that still hasn't subsided.

Duh!
OJG just gave them to in the papal edicts and "bulls".
Banning the word from the public is no different than banning it in it's entirety...it is nothing more than an attempt at domination through mind control (or lack of) by the control of available information..
It may have been better had they succeeded in that effort. When the theocracy collapsed, the errant teachings would have gone with them. There is a good chance that the pedophilia of the RCC may never have developed as it's doctrines and rituals wouldn't even exist, or would have been minimal.

Why are you defending Protestantism???

The Puritans were cruel dictators that also wanted their own versions of the bible to be THE rules followed by All.

Thomas Jefferson (Lutheran) who wrote his own version of the bible owned slaves and was no prize either.

About.com Civil Liberies.

In 1779, Thomas Jefferson proposed a law that would mandate castration for gay men and mutilation of nose cartilage for gay women. But that's not the scary part. Here's the scary part: Jefferson was considered a liberal. At the time, the most common penalty on the books was death.

You also take only your own interpretations of scriptures from the bible.

That is WHY Catholics and Protestants killed each other. And that is why Protestants killed other Protestants.

The bible has been used as a weapon since its compilation and nothing has changed.

People are determined to try to force others to what they personally believe "god" expects of human behavior.

Idiocy in action!!!

Here is a recent one I saw: "Maplewood Church of Christ"
The sign outside the community center where they hold worship service says : "the first century Church in the 21st century"

They have a Bible just like you. They believe in the necessity of water baptism and faith+works.
You disagree right?

The church of Christ (like the born again movement) picked up their bibles and saw a verse or two and decided to launch a religion. Theirs is Romans 16:16. Yours is John 3:3.

Maybe you ought to provide a verse where Christ says the Bible is the only thing revealed about His Ministry. Perhaps you'll cease trashing His Mother if you realized He didn't!

The Bible wasn't kept from anyone. People were free to enter the Church for Mass and hear the Gospel.
What would Jesus Christ say to all the Christianities out there today?
Its amazing. Our Lord was crucified; His Apostles killed as well, to bring the faith to the world, only to have some idiots with their highlighted Bibles undoing what they died for!

The Bible is a Catholic Book. The Protesters want to claim it as their own, but it ain't.
Right now, someone is doing a Bible study in the basement of Maplewood Community Center,(MN) trying to figure out the latest revelation of the faith to them via the Holy Spirit. They come to a different Christianity than OldJG. Even though OldG did the same thing (via the Holy Spirit). That's madness. That perverts the sacred scriptures.

Many people are under the impression that the Salem witch-trials were motivated and committed by Catholics ... but I believe that was not the case.

Catholics were not welcome in America at the time of the Salem witch-trials, so it was the Protestants that committed those crimes against each other.
>>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>

The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_tria...
>>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>>>> >>>>

Considering that the population in the first federal census of 1790 totaled 3,939,000, the Catholic presence was less than one percent, certainly not a significant force in the original 13 British colonies.

Can't say I have compared them in entirety ..But a,few times I liked things up in both .

They were the same ...except of course the apocryphal books.

Which even the Jews did no acknowledge as pure scripture.

But the ones I looked at read the same ...weird huh??

Protestants are fond of shifting the blame on to Catholics for all the brutality ... but I suggest that people in all religions were brutal.

Those who dictate "god's" RULES believe they have the RIGHTS to the kingdoms on earth AND in the hereafter.

Religion is NOT good!
